Is ditziness genetic?

People at that site were talking about it. I figured it might be itneresting to see what people here though. Is ditziness genetic? Is ditziness just people with bad habbits? If it is neither, then what causes ditziness? Whats the best way to deal with a ditz?
I figured this unusal topic might prove to be interesting.

I doubt being ditzy is genetic. I would bet my paycheck on that (but i'm not...need it for college!!!)

My guess would be ditziness is caused as a result of social influences (other people, media, etc) around a person. Say....suppose theres an actress that the kid absoultely idolizes. Bad news-the actress is a ditz. And, theres a chance the kid may imitate they're behavior as a result of their idolization.

If the mom is a ditz, then the kid may imitate their parents, but I can't see how genetics play a part if being a ditz.

I doubt its genetic lmao. This is probably another theroy like the "blonds are ditzy" one. This is obviously not true, and totally sterotypical.

That's the crux of it, I think. Being disorganised could be condensed to forgetting things and poor prioritisation of tasks. So you spend an hour on RMXP instead of doing your homework and then forget to do yesterday's homework - you are officially a ditzy nerd. It's been shown that during puberty people's skills in prioritisation are impared, which suggests that it's a distinct ability catered for in the brain. In that case it could be genetically influnced. It's probable that memory skills are at least partially influenced by your genetics. So yes, ditzyness is quite possibly partially genetic. Whether this means it's inherited, however...

Mmy girl friend is a ditz, her mom is a ditz, her mom's sister is a ditz, and my girls grandma is a ditz.

Ditziness is natural, and has the chance to occur in all humans. It's not genetic. People who are visually appealing have an easier time socially and thus, have less of a dependency on becoming cognitively well-versed.

Everyone else becomes (usually) people of average mental will and comprehension. They become this way because they have less physically appealing qualities and thus count on a clever and witty attitude to compensate. These people are either of average or below physical appearance, or actually quite beautiful and just don't know it.

Someone who develops an air-head attitude has done so because other people tend to help them along. They have less of a need to remember things because they're surrounded by people who help them. Conversely someone who isn't surrounded by those who will help them must develop a sharper mind.

At least that's my theory.

I have my ditz moments, and I wouldn't say it is because I am used to people helping me out (I can fend for myself), nor due to low intelligence. I guess I sometimes get a little absent-minded or lose my train of thought and this can come across as me being bubble-headed. The only other reason I can be a ditz is when I lack common sense in certain situations or fail to communicate effectively. It is hard to describe from my side of things, because I know I am not stupid, a "valley-girl" or even a social retard. I don't think being a ditz has anything to do with attractiveness or being cute to guys, however.

So I guess I would say ditziness (in terms of the behaviour) is just bad habits or lack of concentration. Ditziness does not only apply to the Paris Hilton's of the world (as Erk could probably tell you...), although it may be a side effect of stupidity.


EDIT: Case in point, I didn't realise this was a necropost. Ixis, maybe take more care to look at the dates on topics before reviving them, although since this is a symposium and you added your own thoughts to it, maybe it isn't so bad. (mods?)

I don't know the exact carbon-dating you all use here for "necroposting." When does a thread die anyways? This thread was on the first page of the symposium so I figured it was free game. I'll look around for a specific stickied thread or something about necroposting in some of the other forums, but I haven't seen one yet. I don't see why people get all angry and upset about "necroposts" anyway. Can anyone explain? This isn't the first forum I've been to, nor the last. I understand why people don't like trolling/flaming/spamming, just not this "necroposting" (which, after being on forums for several years is a new term to me.)

Well, I don't think necroposting has an exact carbon date (as you put it) - when a thread hasn't been replied to in a few months itcould be considered dead, (unless it is a project or resource topic that takes a while to work on), whether it is on the first page or not.

Again, you added your own thoughts/new theories to the topic, which allows it to be talked about more. I have no idea how mods would feel about it, since it is in the symposium and therefore is just general discussion anyway.

Honestly, I wasn't criticising - a mod would be better able to answer what is or isn't acceptable in this case.
