IPCONFIG.exe Corrupt! I need help!

Here's the deal... there's a process called IPCONFIG.exe., you need it to connect you to the internet, coz it gives you your IP address.

On my laptop, it's fucked. Corrupt, and won't run.

The CMD > IPCONFIG > Enter shit doesn't work.

I need it either fixing, or replacing, and I can't find anything on Google that helps.

No anti-virus software will help.

I'm hoping there'll be some expert on here who can help. Coz let's face it, you all know a fucking hell of a lot more about computers than most peeps (even if you are users of the evil Apple corporation's machines!!)

Most of my work's on the internet, so the sooner this can be resolved, the better.

Thanks.

Err...doesn't ipconfig just outputs your network interfaces information, not set them?

Taken from the ipconfig /help command :

ipconfig [/? | /all | /renew [interface] | /release [interface] | /flushdns | /displaydns | /registerdns | /showclassid interface | /setclassid interface [classid] ]

So, that's basically all you could do with ipconfig.exe. In other words, display your card information, toy with the DNS information and change the class id (whatever that is). It's not necessary to connect to the internet.

My guess is, if it's not outputting anything when you run it, it's because your interface is NOT configured. Try updating your network drivers and play around with the interface configuration. Settings > Network Connections

Maybe I got the program's function wrong, but without the program, you cannot complete your connection to the internet. And trust me, I've tried everything else, all I need is the file repairing or replacing. Or I could back-up my computer, and re-install windows, but that ain't gonna happen, for a number of reasons which I can't really be arsed explaining right now.

If you don't have a back up of it, then there's little we can do. It's one of MS's copyrighted files, we can't send you one.

Ah, thanks.. so I'll have to contact Microsoft? Great. Like I can surpress years of fault-riddled computers and refrain from ripping into them over it. If I contact them, they'll probably put a legal hit out on me. Goddamnit.. what the hell am I gonna do?

No, don't do all that.  Try running system file checker first, sfc /scannow from the command line, I'm not sure if ipconfig is on the list of protected files or not but if it is and you have your windows disc that'll fix it.  However I seriously doubt ipconfig is your problem, like Etheon said all it does is print some info on your screen.  It has nothing whatever to do with your connection process.  What you are probably thinking of, if I had to guess, is that your TCP/IP stack is corrupted; this is pretty common and easy to fix.  Here's the command:

netsh int ip reset [log_file_name]

Where [log_file_name] is any valid filename to save a log to.  Good luck!
