Internet Speed

I just discovered my internet download speed sucks total donkey balls.

I live in northeast Alabama, and I tested my DL speed on a server in Atlanta, Georgia and had a speed of 0.75 Mb/s. A server in Tennessee resulted in an even worse score. Does anyone have any idea how I can increase my Mb/s without upgrading my DSL or spending a fortune?

Dammit dude, I have a .2 Mb/s internet speed, I'm I'm going just effing fine. Videos, music, everything is damn fine for me. How can .75 Mb/s be SLOW?!?! I mean, that's 750 kb/s, dammit- what do you download that needs a dozen or two gigs in an hour?!?!

0.75Mb(Megabit/s is actually less than 100 KB/s. 0.75Mb = 750 Kilobits. 8 Kilobits to a Kilobyte (KB).

My connection is 8Mb/s which is 1MB/s download speed, under ideal conditions.

Hmm... if going by speedtest, you;re about half as fast as me then, which honestly would still be pretty okay- movies would load slow, but for a multimedia person it works, unless you just don't like it. I guess I understand where you're coming from, although it still seems nothing should take more than a couple minutes or dozens of minutes, unless you're downloading games and movies.

I'm bellsouth dsl, 24(or 32 I forget) bucks a months and working just fine, and with the netgear and routers and stuff, entire house has internet- playing 3d mmos are easy, torrenting slows everything to a bitch but still better than aol days.

God the aol days. I still studder.

I'm not big on these computer numbers but this sounds generally bad to me. My internet always seems pretty slow.

My dl speed dipped to 300 bites(bights?) per second the other day. It was going to take 7 hours to dl 10 megs. It ended up taking a bit over an hour. =X

At Uni I was getting 25Mb down; at home I am getting 7Mb down (stuck with this till October ~:~::~:~@@@)

Como, the UK is a tiny country with overly modern infrastructure in many areas. The US invented the internet, the phone, the television, and the radio, and in many areas the infrastructure is pretty old, meaning speed can only be so much.

I'm trying out several free games for PC to see if I can get back into MMOs. For the smaller stuff I don't have a problem waiting, but the huge games that are several thousand MBs, I'd rather not wait seven hours.
