Interesting Email

I got an interesting email today from a relative. It's chain email, which erks me, but it has a valid point. It reads as follows:

THIS GUY MAKES A GOOD POINT This was written by a
construction worker in Fort MacMurray- he sure makes alot of sense to me! ----------------------------- I work, they pay me. I pay my taxes and the government
distributes my taxes as it sees fit. In order to earn that pay
cheque, I work on a rig site for a FortMac construction project.
I am required to pass a random urine test, with which I have no problem.
What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to
people who don't have to pass a urine test. Shouldn't one have to
pass a urine test to get a welfare cheque because I have to pass one to
earn it for them? Please understand -- I have no problem with helping
people get back on their feet.
I do on the other hand have a problem  with helping someone sit on their assdrinking beer and smoking dope and/or doing crack. Could you imagine how muchmoney the provinces would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a public
assistance cheque? Please pass this along if you agree or simply delete
if you don't. Hope you will pass it along though, because something has
to change in this country, and soon !!!

I know it is written by a Canadian, but I suppose it applies to many nations.
This is what really pisses me off. I mean really? In my life I had to collect social security once, because I was a single mom with two babies under age 4. But when they went to school, I went back to work. But I didn't booze it up, or smoke dope. That's what the system is meant to be in place for, and I think it is a good thing. But this guy is absolutely right, why shouldn't there be more rigid requirements for someone to collect on welfare?

What are your thoughts on the issue?

Well, according to how canada works nowdays, you can't do that easily without having a few tons of protest about liberty and well, you know.

It's normal for any good citizen to be annoyed by this. But these people know what they are doing, and that even if they can't hold this forever, it will bring up some free cash. Infact, some people are experts in these domains. They don't pay their rent, live as they want, annoy the neighboors in the appartement downstairs and stall the justice system. First, you have to warn them that their rent is late, otherwise you can't do anything. I think it's a month or two or lateness. But you can't do it yourself, the guy is not stupid, he'll just say that he never received it. You can't have a lawyer send it, but a hussier, someone that goes to the door and gives the letter himself. Then you can file a case, which might take a month or two and the guy may not present himself to the justice court, saying his car was broke (even if he doesn't have one - yes, it really works) so you loose another month or so. Then if you win, the court gives them a two week or so time to get out or else the hussier arrives and forces them out.

For alot of effort and some cost, it takes MONTHS (and since the guy is poor, you can only wait a year or two for the check or your missing rent, 'cuz the governement can't take all his salary).

And some people are even better, they have fake names, they quit their jobs first, so unless you are willing to invest alot, you can't trace them (and it takes a year just for your case to be approved because of the fucking huge list of complains).

That's Canada. In US, I think, you have to pay the lawyer alot for every small thing, so you end up paying more then you gain (not to mention time). Not whorth it. The guy goes frees to screw someone else.

So in short, yeah, there are people like that, "guiltlessly" screwing the system and there always will be whenever it's too easy. Unfortunatly. Slows down the system and economy. And the worst is, seems like it's a rising tendency. I'm at a good school and can still easily spot a few people who will be doing that. It's maybe not a majority, yes, but it's far from just a few isolated cases that I'm complaining about.
