Indian girl afraid of world ending, kills self

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26641652/

BHOPAL, India - A teenage girl in central India killed herself on Wednesday after being traumatized by media reports that a "Big Bang" experiment in Europe could bring about the end of the world, her father said.

The 16-year old girl from the state of Madhya Pradesh drank pesticide and was rushed to the hospital but later died, police said.

What a tard.

Between drinking insecticide and being compressed into a singularity, I think the black hole would be a lot less unpleasant.

Honestly, I really hate all the scaremongering that people have done regarding the Large Hadron Collider or whatever. There is an INCREDIBLY SLIM CHANCE that a black hole of that size could survive for more than a brief length of time and actually amount to anything dangerous. If all else goes to pot, then, well... The thing about armageddon is that there's nothing to worry about anymore. If you know you're gonna die no matter what along with anyone who would be affected negatively by your death, that seems like it would be supremely relaxing to think about.

What bugs me is how people don't seem to understand how slim "incredibly slim" is. It seems like you mention a "slim chance" and people just freak out like "So there IS a chance! WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE FOR SURE!".

Nothings going to go wrong. The upper atmosphere is bombarded by particles with as much energy and more than what will be going on in the nice easy to observe confines of the LHC. If these collisions would result in death for one and all, it would have happened already naturally. I really hate doomsayers.

I would feel a little safer if they didn't try this on earth. why not the moon?

Ha... a friend told me about this a while ago. He said they shouldnt but I was like go for it.

Its fucking 2008 and we don't have flying houses and stuff so its about time we start getting some scientific shoves... without some shitty as world war pushing people to build shit.

and it would be damn cool to get compressed to nothing.

looks lame. :dead:

Ok, I read it. I can't get past the phrase, "...her father said."

If it makes him feel better that it was the only reason for her suicide, so be it.

"Me thinks he doth protest too much."  (wonder what he's hiding?)

Awesome Bro

at least she killed herself first time round. You get a lot of EMO KIDS that "try" to commit suicide several times over. How hard is it to throw yourself off a skyscraper or but shoot yourself in the mouth?

fucking emos

;-;

hey

I like your avatar.

It shows step by step what you need to do.

As a sidenote, they're not even firing up the LHC for any serious work for a few more weeks yet. This just marked the point where they started making test runs to ensure they didn't, I dunno, do something wacky like initiate the apocalypse.

Honestly, I'm excited about this. My Physics teacher talked to us today about the theories it might help shed light on, and it seems neat to think that they might have to redraw a good deal of our assumptions regarding physics depending on the results.

Well, at that point, a black hole will already have been created. The thing is designed to accelerate particles (lead ions, was it?) so they can smash together, not sustain a gravitational anomaly. Once the things get up to speed, I'm sure they have safety measures in place, but nothing that could obliterate a tiny black hole.

The whole situation is so unlikely, though, that it's almost a moot point. Don't worry your pretty little head about it.

Those were my exact thoughts as well Brewmeister. I think the Indian government need to investigate this more closely.

Dadevster, surely by then it's too late? ;)

What's the point in saying this Hadron Collider has a obscenely small chance of wiping out all life? Who's going to complain? "Everyone, I'm sorry we're all dead."
