In Need of an Opinion...

Alrighty, well as of late I've been contemplating many different aspects on my project. Recently, InvisibleDrifter released the Tyke2 template, and I've been very impressed by it. the question i pose today is something I would like some feedback on, and if possible a preference. Here's my question:

Below are two screenshots. The first is a screenshot with Half Kaizer's of my characters and a custom tileset I started. The second screenshot features Tyke2 characters, and a recolored RTP tileset. My question is this: Among the two screenshots provided below, which style would you be interested in seeing when I release a demo of my project?

Half Kaizer w/ Custom Tileset:

Tyke2 w/Recolored RTP Tileset:

Pros of HK-Custom:
*Looks nicer, and more original.
*Butt load of detail
*WHen and if I ever release anything, it'll be worth it.

Cons of HK-Custom:
*Project is taking way too long.
*HK are notoriously good at consuming time.
*Tilesets aren't my forte'

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Pros of Tyke2-Recolored:
*Cutesy graphics
*Way easier to sprite with
*Recoloring makes up for originality.

Cons of Tyke2-Recolored:
*Less detail
*RTP. Enough said.
*A bit small.

Anyways, I'd really appreciate some honest feedback. Also ignore all the spiriting/mapping errors, etc. Some of the sprites were sprited poorly, and the tilesets are still WIP. I just used them for comparison purposes. I really like both templates, and I'm a bit torn in picking which style to go with. Any ideas? Thanks for your time.

if your game needs emotes and details to understand some parts, the half-kaizer is better

if your game is going to be more cartoon, needs less size (is that the name in english for X kbs?) and neds faster sprites the tyke is better

Hmm, this is a tough call. I like and dislike aspects of both.

I think personally i would choose HK. Although it's going to take a lot longer in the end it will be worth it. Also it will make your game stand even more if its all custom opening many new windows.

I hate big templates, and I'm impressed with all of invisible drifters templates, so Tyke2 all the way, you could give the tileset an outline though :p

Agreed... With everything-_-

I'm quite attached to HK myself. And I love your HK sprites. So I know where my vote is.
(I also remember seeing your custom tilesets and going-woah, I want to do that! So maybe that's bonus points there for HK too)
Yeah, you can finish an NPC worthy Tyke in 5-10minutes...and that is a major bonus (plus they're cute n.n) But I'm just so jaded by the fact that for me..Chasing Citsuaki = Ethereal Dreams custom graphic HK style rival. n.n' Anyway, good luck with the choice!

Hmm, the tileset for the HK looks kinda flat and in my opinion, doesn't suit the characters very well.
In the other hand, the HK sprites look very good.

But, for me, the tyke seems to be better. It suits the RTP tileset very well, and the sprites still look awesome. Gotta tell you, you're an excellent spriter. :)
I think when you go on tyke, it will be easier and faster, but still beatiful.
And maybe you should make some outlines for the recolored RTP Tileset's objects as well (Trees, bushes etc...) so the tileset would suit even better.

Anyways my vote goes to Tyke! ^_^

I think the Tyke2 suits your spriting waaay better, so imo that's the way to go
(And you could also use the GU tilesets as I release them, as GU and T2 are 99% compatible)

but you could also consider some others like the Breeze...

But looking at that screenie(No offense) you shouldn't go for the bigger temps.

Lol, so many differing opinions. I really appreciate the input everyone, means a lot to me to get some honest feednack. I still can't decide. I'm going to try to make a new tileset for the Hk, and if that works out I might go with HK. I still want to do something with the Tyke2, however. I'm going to try to resprite a lot of my HK's, and I'll repost here to see qhat you guys think again.

I love your HK's but the Tykes are just as impressive..and you would have a better chance to complete something..so I say Tyke :)

I like both so I'd say to use both sprites... o3o Maybe you could use tykes for mini-games... but that's just my opinion anyway. ^^;

The sprites are good for each, so it's hard to place an oppinion solely on the characters. I think if you go with hk the tileset needs more work, as it was said it looks to flat. The tyke2 looks better because of the flatness of the hk tileset, but if the hk tileset was made more 3d'ish it would be a hard decision. It'll be easier with the tyke2 but the hk would look better. With tyke2 you'd have more time to concentrate on other aspects of the game than just graphics. I would personally go with tyke2 but I will say a more graphiclly beautiful game can be created with hk.

Ah your sprites are cute no matter what. I think the issue lies more in the tilesets rather than the sprites themselves. From what I see the Tykes don't really look like they match in style with the rtp. It just looks odd. Like the Tykes are really good but they stand out strangly against the rtp. You'd have to redo the tilset there as well. Also if you've gone so far with your Hks just keep going. I know it can be hard to resist jumping into another template. Plus they already have a ton of poses set up for them. You'd have to make up all kinds of poses from scratch for them while it's already done on HK. Just some things to think about.

The new tree is by far better. But Id suggesr adding more versions of it with different locations of shading. Like a version with the light hitting it dead on. Another with darker shading for in the shade, etc, etc...

I definently plan on making a variation for trees, with different colors, etc. Interesting idea for the shading... Anyways, like I said before, I appreciate everyone's input on this. I'll post again with an updated tileset for BOTH the HK and Tyke2 and see what everyone thinks. (Although I'm leaning more for HK...)

Your mock up looks cool... If I were you I'd make prerendered backgrounds at that perspective rather than the topdown rtp style perspective.
I like the more sideview look for the trees.

Y'know that idea did cross my mind, I was just intimidated by making it work on a tileset. I think I'll try that and see what happens. 'Preciatte the advice, Tana.

The two of them are really good.

Originality is great, but It's really hard to finish a game with all orginal tilesets, and if you do, it will take a lot of time.

So, I'd go with Tyke2, if you manage to recoulor all the tilesets in your game it will still be original, and will not take so long, and I also like a lot this Tyke2 style, it's great.

Well, I'm just saying what I think, It's up to you to decide.

The new tree looks awesome...what else can i say ^_^ I'd like to also see your attempt of a more side-view like tana mentioned.
