How to utilize guns in a battle system

Well, this question has been troubling me ever since I started even thinking about making a game.  :dead:

If one was to utilize guns into a battle system, how would this be done? I mean, how could one use the full range of a gun on a screen of RPGXP's size? Possible?

Anyways, discuss this please. I'd quite enjoy someone coming up with an idea how to do this, or even coming up with a better one.
 
Depends on the type of battle system- I take it you mean an ABS of some sort, as in shooting on the map?

My own project makes use of something like this. I'm going to avoid blatantly advertising, so I won't link you to the topic, but directly to a demo download. It's just an early tech demo that focuses entirely on the battle system, so I'd suggest you check it out: click here. If I remember correctly, it should be unencrypted as well, so you should be able to see how I did things.
 
That's encrypted? I thought it wasn't. Maybe I did it for the graphics or something, since I know I'm usually fine with sharing the code.

I'll see if I can upload an unencrypted version at some point for you.
