how to make gif images not discoloured?

i'm trying to make a gif image... but it keeps coming out discoloured... how do i make it not-discoloured?, ive asked this in the past but i cant remember how...

GIFs only support 255 coulours ( I might be mistaken) that's why they get discouloured, Try using only that number of colours.

If you save an image as a gif in ms paint, it changes the palette to netsafe colors and uses patterns to make them look like the ones you chose, whether it is 255 colors or less or more. If you save it in photoshop you can keep the actual palette. I don't know about other programs like gimp or paintshop pro...

photoshop? it wont let me save as gif... but i found a way to do it without messing up the colours... thanks for the help guys

Ummm...yes it will. Its listed as CompuServe GIF.

no... whenever i say save as i dont see anything related to gif... it's tif (or something like that) bitmap, png... and others that i cant remember... but Chaosg1 was right... apparently my picture had the right colours on it cuz its colours didnt change

You could also press Ctrl+Shft+Alt+S which brings up the "Save for Web" option (or just go from the File toolbox to "Save_For_Web" that way.)

In there you can dynamically edit web images on the fly.

'save for web' reduces colors to a web-safe pallete. Thats what ms paint does i believe.
