How is my first Sprite?

Hmm. well to be honest if you're new I suggest conforming to the shape of the template first . It looks as though in the first frame you altered the template a bit . Work on your spriting, use the template as a crutch, and when your comfortable, worry about the shape of it.

I'd say work on your color choice as well. the red and blue you used are far too saturated and are going to scream at you on screen. Lastly, redraw the hairline to fit the roundness of the head. You did good with the belt line, but the hairline is going straight across his forehead and looks a little odd.

Other than that theres not much to say. I'd say work on your shading but i don't think you've gotten to that yet..have you?

I might also suggest you change the white background to a light neutral color. It's easier on the eyes and also helps you pick more toned down colors.

The icon looks pretty good, but it doesnt even look like you used the template when you made that sprite. Try to stay more along the outline of the template next time. Take a stab at shading it too.

allright, now the colors are a bit too dark. but you're on the right track. Remember what you want to do is make the colors less saturated not necessarily darker. For instance to take your ariginal red color :http://img175.imageshack.us/img175/4909/satredeq5.png[/IMG]:

you want it to look more like this:http://img175.imageshack.us/img175/4189/desatrednx5.png[/IMG]:

Desaturation simply means that the color gets closer to grey as it desaturates (Much like the fading colors on a red T shirt)

Go ahead and try it out with the blue, and I'll guide you through the next step.(if you're still working on this)

The shirt is better...

But, uhmm.. Try applying a black outline on the pants' crotch..(and the line between the legs of course)...

(a rule, if using a bright color, use darker colors for shades and even darker tones for the outline... But i prefer black outlines, though!)

First, yes, I forgot to mention that you need to go over that light outline with a darker color. Second, DO NOT USE BLACK. Use a darker version of the color you are outlining. For instance if you're using red, you want to outline it with a darker red (considerably darker mind you )

Also the colors look better, but try lightening them up a bit becuse if you don't , they will only look darker once you shade it.
