How do I Get an Event's Position/coordinates Memorized on a Map?

Okay, I have a part in which I need to move a boulder onto a switch, simple enough. But How do I get the boulder to stay where it is on that switch even after the player leaves the map, and comes back later? I'd like the steps please, just saying you need to " memorize coordinates" doesn't help, how do I do that part?
 
I'll give you a step by step runthrough, then.
You'll need two variables.
Using a parallel process event, set the x and y coordinates of your boulder to the two variables.

Also, when you come back in, have a quick autorun event that sets the boulder to [var1,var2] then exits the event.
