How can I change starting inventory?

I bet this stuff is out there too, and I just don't know how to phrase it. :I

Anyway, I have a n00b question...

I am using RPG Maker XP and I would like to have my character start off with a few basic items. However, I don't know how to do this. I have checked anywhere items are mentioned, and I'm not seeing it. Is there something I am missing?
