HK reptile template

here is the start of an HK sized reptile template I'm working on for my game:
OLD:

LESS OLD:

NEW:

Update 1:
basically I redid the shading so there actually seems to be a light source and so the skin appears more reflective (I'm assuming that this will have a lot of skin showing when used so the shading should match).
Also I went ahead and did the stills for the other directions (not animated yet).

Update 2:
Okay so I went back and increased the thickness of the tail and tried to make it's position seem more consistent. I also made an effort to fix the head in the side view both by making his nose bigger and reducing how bulbous his head was. Finally I made a meager attempt in changing the paws to have claws.
(P.S. I forgot to add the side view facing the other direction, its just a mirror image so use your imagination if necessary )

C&C please & thanks

Not bad, not bad. I haven't opened this in an editor or anything, so here's some basic critique.
The ankles need some more definition. As is, the shading's a little off.
The knees are odd, and the lower legs look like they're bending backwards.
Also, reptiles generally don't have noses, instead preferring a pair of vertical slits.
Keep working on this!

It does look pretty good, but do we really need a template for reptiles?

According to my knowledge reptiles come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, they don't all resemble this guy.

thanks for the critique Gratheo I think I'll give the slits over nostrils a try, and I had one really "fun" time trying to get those feet to look ok. Its supposed to look as if he is sorta standing on his toes, and the lower legs are supposed to look as if they are bending backwards But I'll try to put a bit more work into them.

Money it is supposed to be a humanoid reptile similar to this guy which I sort of used as a reference:

Also if anyone has any suggestions on how to improve the linework or shading I'm open to them as I'm still somewhat of a nub at pixeling.

I'm hoping once this is finished and once my "skillz" improve to contribute to the HKCP

Well its been awhile school has been killing me.

here is what I've done so far hopefully a step forward. Finished other directions and changed the shading.

I would like to add a bit more of a reptile/scaly texture to the skin but I'm sure that will be quite and endeavor for me so I'm wondering if you guy's think it will be worth it.

It feels like my pixeling is steadily improving

C&C please and thank you

Hmmm, influenced by my Aurite in the leg area? I think that needs to be modified since Aurites have paws -- This guy needs more claw/talons, I think.

Otherwise it looks nice, the musculature in the back is well-done. I think the tail is a little too shrimpy, and the nose on the sideview is a little too thin. Either that, or the skull is too bulbous in the back on the side view, it's hard to tell. Nice work though.

I agree with what Ven said above. In addition to that, I think the tail placement looks odd. On the side views it looks like it's tucked between his legs, and on the back it looks like it's just pinned onto his bum.

Overall it's looking pretty good, and with a few improvements could be really impressive. Good job.

Yeah I should have mentioned what I used for influence/reference in the first post

The Aurite template was what convinced me to try to make this (I've wanted to for a while but thought I would do a brutal job) as the legs where similar to what I had in mind.  Also I used the male muscular template to get an idea of how to draw the muscles.

Now that its been mentioned I think I should beef up/fix the tail a bit and make its position more consistent, I've already been playing around with claws rather than the current paws but I am having a tough time making it look right, I guess I'll just tough it out :dead:.

For the head in the side view it is probably too bulbous in the back, I'm having trouble having the height of the skull match with the front view and not look huge (my first try had him looking like a green conehead) any tips in this area?

I'm not sure about the head, but maybe for the claws you could take a look at some pictures from (please don't laugh at me) the Jurassic Park movies. You might be able to take some inspiration from the raptors' feet to get the claws looking right.

Thanks a lot for the help so far guys its starting to come along a bit thanks to the tips you've given me.

I've added a new updated version with an explanation of whats changed.

Unfortunately I've been neglecting a Lab I need to get done to work on this, But pixeling is just so darn fun!

Hopefully I can get started on animating this soon.

tell me what you think of the new version.

Oh yeah and the Jurassic park tip actually helped

That's definitely looking better, great job! (Sorry, can't think of anything more useful to say right now, it's still pretty early in the morning here.)
