HK attempt

So I've decided to try my hand at the half kaizer template. I'm not real happy with the result though, and would really appreciate some comments on how to improve it. Here it is:

And I've got a thick skin, so good critiques are always appreciated. :)

Credit to Showkaizer for the HK template.

Edit: Updated, working on the rest of the char sheet.

So cute <3

I think it's a great first attempt.

Remember, with the hair, that you don't have to necessarily hug the outline of the template's skull. Don't be afraid to give the hair some lift. It needs it; the scalp looks too small, as do the bangs. Bangs generally don't frame the face, but rather they take a clump of hair from the "crown".

See how the bangs originate high on the scalp? Also they look a lot better with they're not uniform, falling a little into the eyes.

The shirt/toga needs a lot more contrast. I pasted it into an image editor and zoomed in and it looks like your shading is solid, but your palette is lacking.

Try using a palette like the 5th from the left: the white/purple. Or a white/grey-blue combo. Choose about 5 colors from that at varying degrees (avoid ultra-white) so you get some better contrast going on. Adding a hue of color won't detract from the fact that it's white. Using solid grey makes colors look flat.

Also, tone down on some of the shorts detail, and lastly, add some toes ;').

It sounds like a lot but trust me it's much better than much of the new HK attempts I see (not just on the forum, but privately). ^_^

Thanks for the feedback! I changed the hair and the trousers a bit. The palette you posted didn't show up on my screen, but I tried one with more blue in it. I tried to put toes on it, but I don't like it much, and may take them away again if I can't make it look better.

I don't know if it's just me, but shouldn't the bottom of the shirt cover the pants around her waist? This looks great so far(better than what I could do.)

The hair looks MUCH better. The shirt can still use further contrast, and the pants still look kinda lumpy from over-detail. Oh, and don't forget to shade the skin under the clothes/hair!

@ Kenpokis: Nah, a lot of girls' shirts are slit up on the sides so they hang down only in the front/back.

Updated the first post. I'm working on the rest of the char sheet now, but am I right in thinking the colours still aren't quite right? Do they still need more contrast, or is the shading just off?

And by the way, thanks to those who already left comments. :)
