Hi there everyone, nice to meet you all. I'm hoping to learn a lot from you all so I figured I'd actually introduce myself.
I noticed Mouse had a list of questions to answer in an introduction, so lets go with that...

What is your history with game creation and the game making community?

Not really any other than I tried creating an rpg with some friends who were programmers when I was in my erly 20's, that didnt go far so I then went back to college to get a post grad in Interactive Multi Media so I could script in flash and create a game that way. It really didnt help much and I put the idea away for a few years.

What is your field of expertise in game making?

I've been mostly a writer up to this point, I write for fun usually and have a degree in journalism, not that knowing how to write news articles helps with creative writing.

How did you find the forums?

I was actually looking for HKCP stuff and stumbled upon you guys.

What you hope to get out of the forum?

Knowledge. Support. Sprites. :smile:

What kind of creative talents do you have (outside of game creation)?

I'm a decent artist, I write, I do wicked chain mail jewellry...

What are your hobbies or interests?

retro gaming, writing, animal rescue, sustainable living

What kind of music do you listen to?

I listen to a lot of classic rock and 80's music and a lot of new stuff that sounds like the old stuff... and of course Beatles

What level of education are you in? What are you studying in college?

Guess I should give more info, I'm on my iPhone right now so I'll just be brief since I hate this keyboard. I'm using rpgmaker xp with the side battler 2.2 script. I have a complete world and story planned but need custom characters and I really like the hkcp characters but can't find many completed ones. I'm open to other suggestions. I'm using all animated side battlers so free use monsters would help as well. Thanks everyone

For larger original works pixel art analysis is probably the best place to look.

We have the most resources of any site I know, at least HK wise and such, but there isn't really that much work done with HK and sprites that aren't from the RTP.

Showkaizer and Coyotecraft come to mind as names to search for, as well as Venetia.

You can also try making your own character sets. I'm using Ragnarok Online sprites, but it's a real piece of work. I'm currently designing my own custom movement system and I have to rip all character sets, and each full character set has 112 poses.

But I can't find any where on their page if they are ok with possible commercial use. Coming from an interactive multimedia background I never assume I won't want the right to use for commercial reasons... do you guys know if they are ok to use? I e-mailed the owner but havent heard back yet...

I don't think they are available for commercial use plus anyways those are used by like tones of people so they aren't exclusive anyways :c

So... I'm not a spriter even though I am an artist, I was hoping to showcase a real spriters work in my game, do I just ask a spriter here whose work I like to collaborate with me?

well you could always post a thread in the recruitment boards and see what you can get, but for the most part unless you dont have a significant amount of stuff to make your game look promising or some sort of pay, good spriters are hard to come by

I totally agree with Bacon, you won't get a spriter to collaborate with you unless you actually have something to show. Imagine that everyday someone new downloads a copy of RPG Maker XP, joins this forum and starts a thread on his/her project, which will include custom graphics and music.

I was thinking of making the full thing with free for use sprites... then showing it around to get an artist to do custom sprites for me instead...
