HEY HEY YOU YOU (A challenge)

I DONT LIKE YOUR GIRLFRIEND.

That had nothing to do with anything (except the hey hey you you bit)

This is a formal challenge to the members of rmxp.org to THOROUGHLY EMBARASS THEMSELVES.

The challenge: Find an old picture you did, old as you like (preferably at least about 6 months) the only rule here is that it has to be a picture you were TOTALLY HAPPY WITH when you finished it. Redraw it.

Then put them together for the sake of comparison complete with when they were drawn (you don't have to get them exactly right for the old ones if you're stuggling just guess).

No prizes, I've just seen a lot of people recently going I CANT DRAW (Not with THAT attitude you can't) and I want to hammer home that PRACTICE HELP'S.

I will start.

Peardrop's original design had an emofringe and apparently didn't know how to work a hairclip. Also WHAT THE FUCK, SHE IS LONG. Also dodge and burn tools :| Addding ghostie, though, was the single biggest improvement.

Now you guys do it so I don't feel stupid.

Alrighty, technically I cheated, I didn't redraw anything just now, but the picture on the right was my most recent pic, so we'll just say that counts. :D

ANYWAYS, yeah looking at these together is a bit refreshing. On the left Hayato looks so... thick. His neck out of everything is so wrong, it looks like he has a huge neck growth and is angry about that. ALso I have waaaay too many lines to try to make "detail". After I slowed down and really worked on it, I learned that detail can come without that many lines. Also, the first looks like the type of art you'd find in Rugrats, it's so... chippy. The biggest improvement I think, is a more defined style with the second pic. The first looks like a really bad Dragonball z picture, whereas the second looks like something I could call as having my own personal flare. I also made use of some nice little tools on the second picture that actually work better then the softglow I thought looked "cool" for the first. Yay.

I wanted to do this so I dug out my old sketch books. SOoo many bad drawings, mostly video game characters. I can't say I was TOTALLY HAPPY WITH any of them. I found this character that I drew in 2005. He was suppose to be some kind of hybrid werewolf thing. Apparently wolves have slit cat eyes...and his belt is never buckled cause he changes sizes when he transforms.

Looking through my old drawings it looks like I liked to draw buff shirtless men 0_0; but hey! I totally improved in drawing animals, dogs at least. I cheated a little on the symmetry of the wolfs face.
Got to give myself credit for drawing his one arm that way, I had a hard time drawing it even now cause its such a screwy angle

that redo is gorgeous o.o and shows allot of improvement in a years time. I tip my hat to you Pheonix.

(still working on my new thing lol)

Thanks Gulch and Marscapone; Tis was before I had a wacom tablet and figured out how to color using digital. Although my artistic...um...talent? may be slightly genetic, it is thanks to people like Racheal, Venetia, Dzjazler, Akaire, and many others who gave me tips and references to help me get to the level that I am currently. That and practice, practice, practice, as mentioned by Wild Cubone. Being humble enough to accept critisicism (positive and esp. NEGATIVE) and practice will help you grow tremendously.

SakuraPhoenix: The gold metallic design on the wings in the newer version looks fantastic!
Get the hand and sword in there. It'll be interesting to see how you redo the blade.

I want to do this...I am gonna find me an old drawing....and then redraw it...

("Wait is this necroposting....becuase this is still on the first page of the forum...I hope not...cuase I wanna do it!")

If the last post in the thread was from at least one month ago, then it's a necropost. Don't be so paranoid, meng!
