Heroes of Roguehaven (RMXP ISO)

Main-Logo_zps2edaa3a7.png

Current Testbed 0.5

Heroes of Roguehaven is actually the third incarnation of the Roguehaven Project, and will be a 2.5d RPG, reminiscient of traditional RPG systems, but with rendered tilesets, sprites, and other add-ons for high quailty. Tilesets, scenery, characters, and most of the architecture are rendered using Cinema4d and Daz3d. Resolution will be set at a standard 640x480, without full-screen. This is an expansive project, with several large graphics, a full CMS, new game categories called Game_Strings, Game_Locations, and Game_Quests. Anti-Lag scripts will be in place.

Setting: Kharis-Yeshar (The World) is a broken and remolded land embroiled in millennium after millennium of unshaken and chaotic history, and now contested in major part by four factions, the Felenash, the Borne, the Dyranesti, and the Mharn Matriarchy. As a character from one of the kingdoms within these factions, you seek out and explore the world, gaining titles and achievements, ulitmately funneling yourself down to a final engagement with your particular goal, to defeat your nemesis (which ever that may be) and bringing peaceful victory to your lands. These four factions all rule over several nations, seven to be exact, and fight against the denizens of the Khan of Shadows, and the Shadow Thrones. They are also loosely bound by a set of laws and agreements called the New Accord.

Story: When, in the lands of Kharis, the seven kingdoms of the New Accord want to get rid of their vermin, their waste, but feel compelled by the Written Law not to execute them for baseless crimes, they instead exile them to the city state of Roguehaven, a warren of every kind of vice and of every kind of outcast the lands could describe but decide not to in polite exchange. Roguehaven is that, a nation of outcasts, longing to return to their homeland, or to survive in their world anew. In the last few years, Roguehaven has began to become a popular neutral ground and trade center, serving no one, and catering to all. Often, travelers needing mercenaries or cheap supplies, rumors or more will step into the dismal city and do what it takes to get what they need. It's said that Roguehaven takes all kinds, and no truer words were ever spoken, especially in these dark times.

A long time ago, the Khan of Time, carried out horrible scourges, curses, and even full-scale invasions upon the seven kingdoms and four major factions in hopes of usurping their power and becoming the only great power within Kharis-Yeshar. Standing against them were the guardians of each of those seven nations; the Guardians of Sharista, longsuffering in their service to their crown, The cold emmisaries of Justice in Merede, the savage red elves of Haz Reyd, the virtuous knights of Gharail, the stoic vanguards of Jemiscra, the Peace-brokers of Hadari, and not far from the Shadow Thrones of the Khan, the battle-hardened Paladins of Perene.

Decades have past since the last incursion, and rumors of wars rifle through Kharis turning the guardians against each other. These rumors and more often beckon through the back alleys, taverns and warrens of the Dismal City. How can Roguehaven succeed where nations have not? Could the outcasts of the Seven be the saviours of them all? Can a band of misfits, outcasts, and good-for-nothings band together, and bring the nations together again in hopes of staving off a new threat from the Shadow Thrones?

Depending on the character chosen at the onset of the storyline, your background, motivation, and adventure story may have different nuances. Heroes of Roguehaven is not just about ONE main hero, but several, all experiencing their own stories. Each one of the major factions offers up four main heroes that you may choose from, and might clash with other factions before coming together against the Lords of the Shadow Thrones and the Khan of Time. On top of the twelve heroes to choose from, you may unlock and acquire two other allies to assist you along the way, from a deep well of heroes and NPCs to choose from. Over 40 possible characters to choose from!

-UTILIZING LYCAN ABS
- Quests and Achievements that unlock various portions of the game upon completion
- Over 200 Weapons and Armors to choose from.
- A massive library of over 300 items, containable in close to 100 recipes to form everything from weapons, armor, enchantments, food, potions,

- Respawning Enemies - Battle most of the monsters you encounter again and again and again, like in your favorite RPGs, without getting bombarded by the random enemy encounter. Fight what you want, not what you have to.

-Revision 0.4 - Overland Mapping - New School Graphics, and OLD School Overland. While the land will have known locations, you can 'discover' new locations simply by venturing too close to them, ala some of your more popular RPGs. The seven nations beckon!

-Revision 0.5 - Overland Lock! - Even though locations may be discoverable, they may NOT open to you if you do not meet minimum level requirements for the encounter... Sorry, just looking out for your best interests.

Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 (32 or 64 bit)

Orthographical Projection in RMVXa? That'll be interesting! I want to see screenshots now. Interesting plotline, too, an exile nation.

I could be wrong but I think magic numbers can just be edited out of the default scripts.

Okay, everyone, I had to BUMP this, as it is now an active project. While I also devblog on another RPG Maker website, I wanted morepeople to see the project as this new phase begins. For one, I've decided to jump back to the RPG Maker XP engine, which allows for larger resolutions.

You are aware that VX and VXA have very good native support for alternative rendering resolutions? So you could just up the resolution of VX/VXA to 640x480 or 800x600, whereas XP requires a bit more work to change the resolution.

VX/VXAce:
Ruby:
Graphics.resize_screen( 640, 480 )

XP needs rather large scripts to change the resolution.

I DO realize that, I could try a test bed with RMVXAce later. Here's part of my issue there, I am also using a few other scripts that from what I understand are innately RMXP scripts, namely DerVVulfman's Mousie Script, among other things, Also using Buddy Siever's CMS script, which I might be inclined to change over to another version. I had originally left from VXA to XP when I was struggling wiht some mapping and tiling issue...

Now that that's sorted out, I might have to take advantage of the faster engine.. Good idea Xilef

And, also, Xilef, for some reason, the maximum I can go with that is 640x480... and from what I understand about VXAce is that after that, you can have larger screens, but there is a limit on the VXAce engine which allows only 640x480 resolution.

Now, with RPG Maker XP and MCG Iso, I have a proven 960x640 resolution, with plenty of room on the sides for all my supporting windows, HUDS and more.
So, I think I'm going to stick with XP's version of the ISO ENGINE.

Keep in mind that when you adjust the resolution in XP, it behaves strangely with fullscreen mode. When I used it for my project, I had to disable fullscreen Alt+Enter because it broke the modified window.

BUMP to 0.5

So, keeping the idea of resolution in mind, I've decided to continue to use 640x480 Resolution in my project.

I will also be using the LYCAN ABS system, with hotkeys for items and skills to be used in play

I am also looking at utilizing a GUI based on CCOA's UMS Message Script for special windows in-game.
