Hermit's House

Ok the tileset's finished. Over time I might add some more stuff to it, but it's fine for now. If you use this in your game, credit Mack for the original tileset, and me for the Hermit's house.

As always, C&C is appreciated.

You might want to try using the boards of wood from the bridge in the Swamp tile set... May be lighten using a graphics tool and constructing your hermits house from that, it would look more RTP standard... At the moment your house looks super imposed on the front of those rocks...

But its a great start.

Ok, after having stared at the swamp bridge for twenty minutes(!) I decided that you were right. So here's the next version of it.

Again, please tell me if something can be changed to make it look better.

The white curtain/space/thingy in the window. A hermit is the person who would least have something white. Actually, none but royalty and upper class would, wouldn't they?

It doesn't look like their is enough contract from each layer (different heights). Just looks brown. Thats just my non-graphic artist opinion...

It's looking better, more in keeping to the surounds, and taking on board and trying peoples suggestions is proof yo want to make this as best as it can be... For the window you could try some of the Port windows or the window of the inside of the ship, the round windows, giving it a more nortical beach like feel.

On the tile set you could give an option of say having the wooden boards meeting the ground, IE place some rocks around the bottom of the wood to make it look like the wood is embeded into the ground...

On your tile set, you could leave the white version previously did and add various windows... I very rarely discard some thing I have made as other people have different opinions, just give more choices, that's my best suggestion.

I would say tile set making is the hardest to pull off, so in my opinion your doing well.

Anglachel, this has nothing to do with being a graphic artist or not. Anyone should be able to notice mistakes, but when you make something yourself, it's usually difficult to see any. So here is the 3rd try.

Well you guys should be familiar with this by now, just give C&C.

*Edit*
Didn't notice your post yet, Landofshadows. But it's a good idea to keep the white wood. I'll add some stones too, so I'll post that after that's been done.

Adding some area's of damage to the wood so you can make various Huts keeping the look random... So in theory you could have many varients on the tile set will help carry your tile set and more people will be likely to use it.

I think what your doing is good, and their is no beach house tile set that I have found, so if you get this right it could be some thing fairly popular.

Good Luck.

The walls of the house really stick out, and in a bad way in my opinion. Everything else in the map seems to blend in with each other, while the wall is kinda just floating there. At first, I indeed believed it was floating there, until I noticed the other rocks around it. Maybe if you tried changing the layout of the surrounding rock, the house would be brought out more.

Concerning the house itself: Make a door border, or something, cause the door also seems to be floating there. It just doesn't seem to fit with the wall. Have you tried recoloring it to match the wall? In addition, the window looks like it's sticking out, rather than being in the wall. ^^;;

Ok, I added dark windows as an option, plus recolored the door and the bar above the walls. Hopefully they match better now. Oh, and I've added some stones as an option in there aswell.

Anyone building a house into the side of a cave likely wouldn't board up a wall. They'd simply carve out a door (assuming that they make the cave) and board that up, or do something else.

The house would look better if you pulled it away from the cliff edge, and gave it a roof.

Well then, time for another update (Yay). A couple of new things have been added. You can now add a roof (thanks Prexus, for that wonderfull idea) and, what's that over there? It's a chimney!

Again, C&C please.

I think that looks ten times better than the first screen shot, a massive improvement... Using the vines from the post town or ruins ojn the third layer could add age to the outside, I can see a fair bit of scope for this... May be making a chimney coming of of the top of the Rocks, again coving the base of it in rocks... Or even making a roof like others have suggested, again make options, I wouldn't start from scratch I mean what you have there works as it is, but there are ways of making more people happy.

If your using this for your self then I guess perfect is what ever you deside, but if you want people to download it, use it and credit you, you may have to take on board what people want even though it's a fair bit of work !!

Care to offer an opinion as to why, or are you just going to spam?

Tassadar: I like what you did with the roof, although that wasn't quite what I was trying to detail. But never the less. All you need now is some age, like Land of Shadows suggested. Take the vines from the Post Town tileset and throw those on, and maybe put a bit of grass sticking out from under the front wall.

I'll see what I can do. Currently, I'm looking at all thet different vines/moss, and I think the Ruins tileset might be just what I need... With a few modifications, that is. When that's finished, I'll post it and start working on the roof. When the tileset's finished, the final version will be in the first post. That will take some time though, seeing there is still more to improve on.

*Edit*

Ok, apparently things went smooth... So here it is, on a different map, so I can show the different types of houses available.

Again, please C&C.

It looks compleatly strange to me. I have no idea what exactly you are aiming for. Another aproach would be just to add a door and windows to the cliff walls instelf without trying to make it look like half a house. Right now to me it just looks like a really bad mapping error. Sorry :\

Well I can't help it if you don't like it, but you can always place the window and door to the cliff walls. It's not like they're stuck on the house walls. I guess I should've showed that on an image, but that's not what it was made for in the first place. It was made to make the house part of the cliff, as if he dug out room for him to live in, and then placed walls so he wouldn't have to suffer from the wind.

Of course you can make the wall as long as you want it to be, so you're not stuck to 4 tiles.
