Hi, I'm Brock, but you can call me boredy (best screen name ever).
What is your history with game creation and the game making community?
I first joined HB Games in January last year but never really posted anything. The only thing I was involved in was the HB Games exclusive Minecraft server under the name "EXephoS (Zen's Friend) (which I never played, sorry for the trouble btw with needing to move people around). As for my history with game making, there's been a few instances over the years where I began to learn to program ruby using codecademy.com and Dubealex's RGSS tutorial for RMXP but I never really stuck too it.
What is your field of expertise in game making?
At this current moment, I have no outstanding skills in game making except for very, VERY basic HTML and ruby knowledge. Over the next 6 months I aim to become an experienced and knowledgeable programmer, an amateur pixel artist and an amateur game music maker.
How did you find the forums?
I found the forums last year when ZenVirZan began playing on the Minecraft server and bragged about how good it was. He convinced me to join the server and signed me up on the White Wolves team under the name "EXephoS (Zen's friend)". I had to join the forums to do this so that’s how I found them and why I joined them in the first place.
What you hope to get out of the forum?
I hope to be able to communicate my ideas, problems and challenges regarding game making and programming so I can get help from kind people like yourselves ;D
What kind of creative talents do you have (outside of game creation)?
Outside of game creation, I don't have many other creative talents (that have been discovered yet!). Expected some amazing talents didn't you? Deal with it. Actually, I can write pretty well can't I? I'm pretty smart :D
What are your hobbies or interests?
My hobbies and interests include long walks on the beach…
Just kidding! I enjoy strategy games (*cough* League of Legends & HoN), playing other computer games, watching anime and programming (ironic I'm interested in programming but don’t know how to do it!).
What kind of music do you listen to?
JPOP (Animenfo radio), random plug.dj electronic room songs, any dubstep (e.g. Skrillex) that sounds epic when playing games and making the clutch plays on League of Legends, Gorillaz.
What level of education are you in? What are you studying in college?
Currently I am a high school student, so I'm not studying anything in college or UNI at the moment.
Now that those introductory questions are done, I actually need to ask for some help from you guys, the community of the best Indie developer site ever, for a year-long free choice research assignment I have to do. Because it's free choice and I'm interested in programming, I have chosen to base it on the elements that make up an RPG game. The end result of this is to 1. Learn how to program, create pixel art and basic game music, and 2. Create an RPG game. I know it sounds boring to help someone with an assignment, but could you throw me a few bones when I ask for help on the forums about it? I promise to only ask for help on game making and not for help with writing essays if you promise to be helpful :D
p.s. what forum should I be asking for help in?
