Welcome to HBGames, a leading amateur game development forum and Discord server. All are welcome, and amongst our ranks you will find experts in their field from all aspects of video game design and development.

Hello All

Greetingz Just a short post to say hello to the board. I am glad to be here. I found this board through another one that I am on and like what I have seen so far. I hope to be able to help out here if I can and look forward to spending more time here. I don't any experience making games but want to learn. I am an RPG Freak and would love to beta test for developers if they need it. I am currently not working cause I am disabled so have a lot of time on my hands. I love anything to do with computers and also love to read. I spend quite a bit of time with my wife and 2 beautiful daughters. I love to listen to most any kind of music but mostly listen to country and techno. I have graduated from high school and tried college but it didn't work out. I am looking at going back to get into computer game design though.

Not sure what else to write but if you have any questions for me don't hesitate to ask and I will answer them the best I can.

Do not study computer game design, there are no jobs in game design at all and the job role of game designer is false, it will be a guaranteed waste of your time and money and you will not get a job as a designer.

The only way to become a game designer is to be friends with whoever is producing a game and has the money to pay for a dedicated game designer.

If you want to do game design you must have skills in game development, which includes art (3d graphics) and graphics programming, colleges and courses that offer game design degrees are scams that are trying to dig into your pocket and will not train you with the needed skills to enter the industry (art, programming).

Study either game programming, art, 3D graphics or regular programming (game programming is more hardcore and holds a stronger skillset, opens the doors for all programming opportunities).

The big one is, all degrees are useless until you have a portfolio of games you've developed.

Too many people aim for the useless role of game designer, the role doesn't exist and no one can be trained in game design, only experience counts.

EDIT: This article helps explain the requirements that game development asks in contrast to that of game design courses.

Hi. Welcome to the forums!
There are plenty of game here.
Also I know Noxie does a regular video feed reviewing rpg games here: viewtopic.php?f=6&p=898192

I have subscribed to Noxie. It is an excellent site and I love what he has done.

thank you for the welcome.

@Xilef thank you for the info. I never really looked into it. You have given me some good thoughtz and ideas to check into.

just another quick note here. I have recently gotten my hands on RPG Maker XP and VXAce and am looking at gaining ideas from this site as to what makes a good to great game. I have always wanted to try my hand at making my own game and now I have the technology to do it with. Hopefully people here can put up with my asking what may seem to be silly questions and forgive me for them.

Feel free to ask any question no matter how silly. If you have trouble, someone else will in future, and if you ask then the answers will be around for them too
