Guitar Hero: World Tour has a different drumset than Rock Band 2. It features three toms, a pedal, and two cymbals. It also has a song creator, which doesn't exist in Rock Band. Aside from that, different song lists, and DLC for Wii, nothing much.
I Have tried all of the guitar heros. Their not bad, but I still prefer to play the real thing rather than pressing 5 buttons. It gets boring. (unless your playing with friends) I like rock band better though.
Guitar Hero's been lame to me ever since Harmonix ditched the ticket. Even with Activision's most recent blind swipe at Harmonix's footsteps, I'm honestly not that motivated to pick this up -- especially since a song creator sounds awkward and time-consuming without much payoff (I hope at least you're not controlling it with a guitar.)
I can play guitar crappily and drums pretty alright IRL, but I still play Rock Band/Guitar Hero because I can't play fucking Welcome Home on my crappy ass acoustic yet.
GH:WT has a song creator mode, but it's incredibly limited and if I wanna make songs I pick up a fucking instrument for a few hours. GH:WT also has shittier peripherals compared to Rock Band 2 from what I've heard.
Rock Band 2 (RB2) has over 200 songs (if you own the first game and get some DLC from time to time like I do.) RB2 is a better party game, better controls, better note charts (this is important because if you're even remotely musically talented you'll realize GH throws in random notes from fucking nowhere.) RB2 is really a fun party game anyone can just jump in and enjoy. GH is a hideously crappy game by Activision/Neversoft who haven't made a good game since Tony Hawk 2. It's also full of fucking ads for fucking bands I couldn't care less about.
My only problem is GH:WT has L'via L'viaquez and RB doesn't. :<
