Guiness World Records 2009 - Most Influencial Games List

Okay, I'm not sure what the "experts" at the company were doing except perhaps drinking their sponsor's factories dry. But when they made this list, I can't say I personally agree with you. Here it is, but allow me to complain for a momment to say that I can't see what the hell Mario Kart influenced! Sure it's a fantastic game but influential? GTA? Yeah that's influencial, not Final Fantasy XII, what the hell did that influence except for me to mistrust Square-Enix... It's hardly been out long enough to have had any influence on the genre. Anyway, that's my rant, this is what they came up with.

I think a lot of these games are influencial, including FF12.

Though it should be Sonic, not Sonic 2.

The most influencial game to me is Tetris.

I'm surprised FFVII isn't a lot higher than it is. I mean while a lot of folks hate it, it has spawned so many godawful fangames and whatnot and basically influenced the whole horrid jrpg movement.

Super Mario 64 should be up higher. It pretty much defined 3D games and set the golden standard for what 3D games should be. It both established and reaffirmed the 3D genre and revolutionized platforming. I have no doubt that games would be much different today without SM64 coming out in 1996.

Why is "Lego Star Wars" even on that list in the first place?

I wouldn't consider any of these to be the *MOST* influential. None of these games really defined a genre or movement compared to other games.

The list is just simple fan fare to create arguments, controversy, and publicity.
