Guild Wars

Has anybody played this game?

Sorry I know you like your lengthy introduction posts for games here but I just want to get a discussion going. That would be better, no?

Regardless, Guild Wars is a CORPG (Competitive Online RPG) released in 2006. It so far consists of:

Three campaigns:
- Prophecies
- Factions
- Nightfall

One expansion pack:
- Eye of the North

Personally, I was a fan of this series up until Eye of the North. The whole game was just to set up the upcoming Guild Wars 2, and ruined the whole scheme of things. They could have got £60 a year from my pocket if they had continued making two short campaigns per year as the original plan was. It could have been so good.

Instead, they have to wait a couple of years to produce Guild Wars 2, just to take £30 off me.

Not a smart business model if you ask me!

Anywho, discuss.

Awesome Bro

I used to play Guildwars quite regularly, I've got all three campaigns and the expansion, although I never finished Eye of the North, but meh, I just enjoyed having Vekk in my party.

It'd be cool if they were still bringing out the regular campaigns, but I doubt they'll bring anymore out for GW, however, I'm looking forward to Guildwars 2, since it's actually going to be an MMO, unlike the original which is just an ORPG really, or I guess it could me MORPG cause it's multiplayer afterall, although it's main focus is the combat, which is great.

I always played a 55 Monk, or iMonk, whatever people wanted to call it (Both were used when I was around), which was amazing, especially when farming for items like ecto's and black dyes to sell.

I finished Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall. Didn't complete EotN, it annoyed me so much. I would have spent thousands on the franchise if they had kept the two-per-year thing running. The idea was to have two teams working on it at a time, each on the next campaign, and each competing against one another for the better campaign. It would have been so good.

Prophecies and Nightfall were by the same team, Factions by another, but all three were amazing games to play through in my opinion.

I switched between an E/Mo or E/D spammer-bomber, and a N/Mo summoner. Used to be good ~. The E/D for Environment and the N/Mo for Multiplayer.

I really liked the extra features after you complete the game. Especially Fissures of Woe. I wasn't so keen on the Underworld, but getting ectos was still fun. I think Fissures' was my favourite post-end content though.

I'm glad they keep updating it even if only a little. New quests and such are out at least once per year with the special events on holidays. But they take them away afterwards :( kind of defeating a little nicety.

I didn't even manage the expert mode on any of the levels -.-. I didn't really get into the endgame content, I found it too difficult

(Yes, laugh at me)

My style of playing GW is button mashing, spamming, searing flames and letting my henchmen and heroes do all the work. I suck at games pretty much.

But the storyline was good enough to keep me interested with that play style, and the game having optional extra difficult modes is good for the more intense and... better players.

Where did you all start your characers? Prophecies, Factions, or Nightfall?

Awesome Bro

I started off in Prophecies at first, made by Monk and Warrior there, then when Factions came out I made an Assassin and Hunter, then I bought more slots (Got 8 at the mo) and made a Dervish for Nightfall.

Then I was just trying out other things like Elementalists and Necro's, although I ended up sticking with a Necro too.

The only class I've never levelled up to 20 was a Mesmer, they seem cool as fuck, and really interest me, but without any direct attacking skills, they just got boring quickly. Although I did use one in PvP and it was REALLY fun.

Yup, I'm ye olde veteran.

I started in Prophecies, got to level 11 on my Necromancer and then Factions came out so I started an E/Mo in Cantha. Got to level 20 in a day so I kept with Factions, completed the game, and then went off to Elona and Lions from there and completed the others. I haven't managed to complete it with other characters, I get too bored because well, I've already done it :p. I'm mainly trying to get 60% prophecies exploration at the moment. I have 70% on Cantha but that's all :(.

I've got a Factions Warrior somewhere in Eye of the North. I'm about 60% through the game or so. Haven't finished Prophecies with him, but with another Elementalist. Good game, but you need a solid group to play it with.

Prophecies is my favourite I think. I like the storyline, the areas, and the way places are actually different. Cantha and Elona are nice and all but a bit... samey, I thought.

Oh but the tutorial islands in Factions and Nightfall were amazingly complex and really well thought through. You could even traverse them in different directions, rather than following them in a linear path, which I liked. I thought that was a highpoint of Prophecies though - the gates in Factions/Nightfall killed a small part of the game for me :'(.

I'm currently trying to unlock all the southern shiverpeaks. There's one or two maps there where I haven't even entered and there's a skill I want to unlock (one of the two Rodgorts', I have the other one). At the time Rodgort builds were all the rage - searing flames as the elite, and then the two Rods. Thats probably died now as builds are always changing but at the time I got bored of the shiverpeaks so never finished my build :3.

I also haven't done the desert quests. I ran myself from north to south shiverpeaks as I'd already ascended my character in Factions ;o

id be up to play with some people again :O

Guild Wars 2 looks pretty good, so it'd be good practice to get back into it.

Some time I'll get back to this. I used to play prophecies a good bit, but I never really got past level 13 or so.

I might just start a new account and play again

It's REALLY easy to get to level 20 really fast in Factions, which I think was what the intended. It's a lot slower in Prophecies or the other one, but these are more story-driven then Factions.

Yeah I got to level 13 I think in Prophecies, got to Lion's Arch, and then Factions came out and I got straight to 20 and just went back to where I was in Prophecies (as Lion's Arch is the start point for foreign characters strangely). That way I didn't miss any of the storyline but still had a chance when every other team player was level 20 and wanted the same. That's also when I ran myself to the southern shiverpeaks etc.

Nightfall also takes a while but foreign characters start off near the beginning of the game.

Event tonight

The chinese newyear event is tonight - chance to get a minipet and several other items plus some bonus quests if they do the same as previous years. I missed out last year ;-; but got the first two they did (the pig and whatever came before the pig).

Just got my 3rd birthday box :) but it was shit :(
