Hello, everyone. I'm new to RMXP.ORG. I did read the rules, and I suppose I will jump right into it.
Here are some suggestions to write about:
* What is your history with RPG Maker and the RPG Maker Community?
* What is your field of expertise in RPG Maker?
* How did you find the forums?
* What you hope to get out of the forum?
* What kind of creative talents do you have (outside of RPG Maker)?
* What are your hobbies or interests?
* What kind of music do you listen to?
* What level of education are you in? What are you studying in college?
History:
My name is Erik. I am currently 17 years old, soon to be 18. I'm a huge fan of reading, music (piano and others), and RPGs.
I've had RPG Maker XP for about a month now. I really enjoy using it. I grew up playing games on the Playstation and other systems, primarily RPGs.
Field of Expertise:
Well, firstly, I do not consider myself an expert in any particular area. I do enjoy art, (I am taking Photography at the tech center at the moment,) and I have a decent knowledge of the Elements of Design. I think this helps me out in the Mapping department.
More importantly, I like to read and write. I wrote a novel (a moderately short one) using the yWriter2 software. Named Fallacia, it is the current RMXP project I am at work on. I could give more information on this game, but I do not wish to overload this introductory topic.
Also, my knowledge of scripting is very weak. I studied HTML for a very brief period and couldn't do it. This RGSS style makes a bit more sense, but I'm still in confusion.
How Did I Find The Forum:
I had a few initial questions (after perusing the Help menu in the program) that I found answers to through a search engine. This website had multiple answers to questions. I find that most helpful. You guys are awesome.
What I Hope To Get Out Of The Forum:
I'm here because I believe I can learn more about the program and ultimately become a better game-maker.
Creative Talents (Outside Of RPG Maker):
As mentioned earlier, I have minor talent in the art field. I can also play proficiently by ear on the piano. I did take lessons in classical for about six or seven years, but I cannot read sheet music that well. I do have a few (albeit low quality) YouTube videos of me playing songs by ear (of the symphonic metal genre).
Hobbies And Interests:
My main hobbies include RPG-playing and building (now), reading, music (playing/listening), and sleeping. (Need more of that.)
I play a lot of the "old school" RPGs because I'm not entirely concerned with the graphic-appeal. If the game has a good storyline, that's all I need. In fact, that's the most important reason for playing any RPG in my humble opinion.
I generally prefer Fiction and Fantasy for reading, and I do like series of books. The View From The Mirror Series by Ian Irvine was quite engaging, and who could forget Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series? I also like Brandon Sanderson and H.P. Lovecraft.
What Kind Of Music Do You Listen To:
I listen to a specific and special breed of metal. Most of the following bands are not American, and I had to literally search them out using Pandora.com's internet radio. I was first introduced to Nightwish by an old friend, and ever since then, I've been hooked on this style of metal.
Nightwish, Kamelot, Epica, Sonata Arctica, Serenity, Angra, Symphony X, Russell Allen/Jorn Lande, Silent Force, Within Temptation, and a few others make up my iTunes Library.
I also enjoy video game music. I have the OSTs for Final Fantasies VII and VIII, Wild Arms 3, Star Ocean: The Second Story and Till The End of Time (Arr. Ver. 1 & 2), and Chrono Cross. These influence my playing style. I do refrain from using this type of music in my RPG.
I've mostly used David Lanz's songs in my RPG. (which I do *not* intend to sell, for obvious reasons.)
Education:
At the moment I'm finishing my senior year. I am homeschooled, but am attending a tech center nearby. (Visual Communications 1 & 2).
For college, I intend to take business classes and work my way up a grocery store's chain. Video game design is just a beloved hobby for me. I don't know if I would like it if it were my "job".
And I think that's all. My apologies if this was too long. I look forward to learning more about RPG Maker. Thanks guys.
