I might use this style of graphics for a platformer game.

This is basically the animation outlined, tell me what you think.

The finished version will look something like this:

I'm sorry I am not expert on art terminology, but in less than fancy words: It looks like a dark blob. I can see the blue on the top, and the rest is just black with white flecks as far as my untrained eyes can see. You need more contrast, and to use the small area that you have given yourself to establish the core features.

 

[Perihelion]

It's kind of pillow-shaded. Use brighter colors and less complex shading. I suggest starting with flat colors and then adding highlights and maybe shadows.
