Graphics Card Installation on the fritz ?!

Jason

Awesome Bro

So basically, my brother has been wanting a new graphics card for a while now, and he finally bought one the other day, and it came today, and I've kept saying I'll put it in for him, so I've left it till now, well, like 10 mins ago, and I've got a problem...

It's an ATI 4350, meaning 512MB PCI-E blaa blaa if you know what graphics cards are what you'll know...

And, well... it fits into the slot in a way, BUT... the bracket itself is too big, it comes with a normal bracket and a low profile, obviously he doesn't take a low profile, but the normal bracket is about half a cm too big, meaning that only one side of the card actually fits INTO the slot itself on a slant...

Now, my stupid idea is to just cut part of the bracket off at the other end, seems simple enough, although knowing me something will go wrong, haha... so I'll avoid it.

Any ideas on why/what/who/how/when ? ... Maybe I'm just not pushing hard enough, although I really don't want to run the risk of snapping it or something, and I've already tried applying alot of pressure.

His computer model/case/whatever is an eMachines E4036 if that helps at all o.O

If the card just can't fit in at all, anyone recommend a good 512MB one that would ? (The site has to be in £ pl0x)

... This is confusing me, my ATI 4870X2 fits in mine perfect... then again, my computer is 100% custom built, lol.

I should've said that, yep he does, it's not like it's an old PC, he got it in 2007, but the onboard one is only 128MB, so it's about time he upgraded, lol.

note that some cards are PCI_E X1 and some are PCI_E X16. X16's won't fit into X1 slots.

(and yes if you cut it not only will it cease to work, but you won't be able to return it!!)

Nope, it's an X16 slot (They're only used for GFX Cards, an X1 is pretty much for everything else, and there's a huge size difference)

So earlier I tried it in my computer, it fit in fine, and my 4870X2 fit in his perfect too, but for some reason, the one he bought won't fit into his, although it's the exact size of mine (Well, minus a huge ass fan, lol)

... Maybe he should just send it back, lol...

this sounds dumb but would you mind taking a photo of the card next to the slot? im having a hard time picturing how it's off in size.

Only thing that makes sense to me that might be off is the clip that locks it in could be causing the problem. How far can you fit it into the slot? Can you fit the front end (the part where you plug the DVI plug into) in, or the back end in? Does it just not slide in at all? Are there gremlins in your pants? If so, can you tell them I miss them?
