Hey so annoyed with the new google I just made this little thing, I don't expect anyone to use it but hey it might be useful?

It's my new homepage, anyway.

It's just a google search bar basically, with nothing fancy and no javascript etc. Because your homepage is the main reason for your web browser taking a while to initially load.

Because it loads from your desktop it also doesn't need to fetch things from the Internet.

In all doing something like this just makes the Internet a little smoother.

hey so first like i said my first reaction is: "what is the point of this i have google chrome" but there are people who don't so in that case

my reaction was "hey its for people who have slow computers and nobody has slow computers anymore this is sad and useless. but THEN i downloaded it and gave it a try :box: :

and this is really a swell product dude. i mean this is the way i see the purpose of a browser: not as a gateway to the internet, but an open door: you just type in a word and BOOM: there is the internet (i cant believe i just used three colons in one sentence (and now—although i suppose emdashes would work but i overruse them—i am nesting parentheses) my respect for grammar is disgusting) just THERE without anything in the way.

and i suppose that is the purpose of GOOGLE ITSELF (which, with search engines in general, is like undisputably the best thing ever). so what is this then? it's a great way of OPENING THAT DOOR. i feel like this little thing you've made serves a purpose by taking away the need to TURN A DOORKNOB. you can just push against it and opens.

and then you're there: internet.

all in all, this was a pretty worthwhile thing to do. cool :biggrin:

Got it working for websites that don't use "q" as the search var now.

Hmm. Bug report: I've tried it in Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera, and IE 9... It works, but in IE 9, it isn't centered like in the other browsers, even when using compatibility mode.

While you might not need the Internet in order to access it, you (obviously) still need it to search for things. I suppose it would make browsing slightly faster if you wanted to kick things off with a search but, in my opinion, the increase in speed would be negligible.

this is really neat! interface-wise, though. I think it would be good to have like a list of sites you can search that you can click to change the searchbar instead of always having to type the name. idk, might just be me.

yeah actually i feel the same way. also it kind of freaks me out for the logo to change when i type it (in a "hey cool" way but it's distracting). if there were some clickables somewhere it wouldnt feel odd for me.

I'm sorry to say, but I don't get this, I've just downloaded and tried it... and what does it do differently to using google normally? I don't see ANY difference at all, except there not being any buttons o.O

Instead of getting search listings, it will actually go to that site and put you on that page.
It cuts out its own middleman, basically.
