What is it?
World of Goo is a new action-puzzle game by 2D Boy. It's very hard to describe, but basically you use balls of goo to overcome strange feats of engineering.
The game features several puzzles, multiple paths, an engaging metagame and sandbox elements, so you can make all kinds of wobbly goo structures.
The game is available for PC and WiiWare, with a Mac and Linux version in the planned future.
The Style
The art is very strange but cool. The game is reminiscent of Edward Gorey and the music has a mischievous romp quality similar to a Danny Elfman soundtrack. The Goo's themselves are cute with big eyes and mutter nonsensical quips whenever you touch them (I think one of them keeps muttering about John Stamos.)
But, it's really something you gotta see to really understand, so check out the trailer on their page.
Critical Acclaim
The game has been high scores all around from Metacritic, and has won two IGF awards for innovation and technical excellence.
Cost
$20, but like last years Aquaria, this game is really worth it! That and it was made by two guys... Two guys who aren't pretentious dicks like that asshole Jonathan Blow that made Braid (another cool puzzle game.)
