Girl gets her dog's head gift-wrapped.

o.O; That's horrible. I can't imagine what that would've been like for that poor girl. It was her *therapy dog*. But, that's America for you. "This makes her happy! Let's kill it and send her the severed head!"

It'd be great if they caught the sadistic bastard that did this, but that's probably never going to happen. .__. Sad. Very sad.

I dunno, I don't condone animal cruelty in the slightest, dogs are cute, they don't do anything wrong or malicious :<. I find it incredibly weird that the perpetrator has a sense of humor to find "Congratulations Crystal, this side up, batteries included" to be humorous. Reminds me of a place I've been to. Often.

Times like this I wonder whether societal attitudes towards various things (such as being able to distinguish between appropriate conduct and sadism) are in the decline.

Back at my old school we had a magpie (whom I’ve been told was a resident of the school for a fair number of years). During breeding time, it swooped down on anyone going through the school’s car park. It was pretty normal behaviour. A mum protecting her nest.

It was during the final stages of the school year, when we were preparing for our HSC, our teacher walks into the classroom and asks if anyone had been aware of what happened in the field next to our school. Someone found the magpie dead on the ground, pinned down on the ground with sticks through its wings.

I honestly have to say that if this ever happens to me and my dogs are dead. I am going to find the killer and fucking chop his head and gift wrap it.

I am not kidding, this is just way too horrible. I don't think a dog did anything to harm someone. If it did happen, hell yeah I would avenge my dogs death.

I don't care in the slightest about the dog, I care about the girl who got the head. I mean, that's awful, and on top of it, whoever did it is still out there with some kind of connection to her - who think's this'll be the last of it?

Although a couple of things in the article also grated on me. Like the fact that some kind of animal rights investigator was sticking his nose in.

This case, Bartlett said, is far worse than a recent episode in Oshkosh, Wis., where a 49-year-old man decapitated two of his kittens because "they were annoying."
And what was the point in mentioning the kittens being decapitated? Torturing an animal, or torturing a person with an animal like in this case, is wierd. Killing an animal, particularly kittens, is neither new nor, objectively, shocking. Would I be freaked out if my next door neighbour got rid of his kittens by killing them? Yes. Would I be freaked out if a farmer or non-urban person did it? No.

@Norris
Somehow, I don't this person thought that this was going to be "Appropriate conduct" :-/

I was going to use humour, but instead I thought using a more 'catch-all' type of word was better suited to put forward an observation that society was slowing losing its grasp on the fundamental differences between what is and isn’t ‘normal’.

Putting dog shit in a paper bag, lighting it on fire and placing it on your neighbour's front porch is funny (call me old fashioned), but hacking off the head of a dog, and mailing it to its owner... that's just not kosher. There doesn’t appear to be much evidence to show that such actions were brought about by malicious intent (i.e. revenge). More likely the guy/girl was doing this for a good laugh.

Well, are humors are all different. Some people when faced when deadly consequences tend to laugh about the situation. If someone did think this is funny, it might seem strange or weird to us but look at it from the perspective of the person laughing about it.

look at it from the perspective of the person laughing about it.
Why would I do that? Clearly, when you derive pleasure from inflicting deep emotional harm on someone, you are outside the bounds of just being wierd. This is ... Really, really wierd.

the magpie story just shocked me. i mean, it's all shocking, but god. i have three pet birds. i swear if someone tried to ---- with them I'd hunt them down and kill them. and I mean that. i would go completely insane if anyone tried to hurt my birds. Wanton cruelty & torture 'for the fun of it' towards animals or humans is completely unforgivable in my eyes. Vengance for that, on the other hand, I have no issues with. Just don't leave me with a sniper rifle.

poor magpie. :( at least if you do kill something, do it quick. don't... not like that. god. not like that.

You can't supersede individualistic rationalisations over societal norms when trying to justify a person's behaviour. It’s practically impossible for anyone (with a decent state of mind) to ever sympathize with this at all because no matter how you look at it, this is blatantly wrong.

Roman Candle, I think you severely underestimate the bonds people have with their pets. I'm not sure why. Maybe you're not a pet person, and that's okay some people aren't. However, I don't get your farmer reference. A farmer will kill an animal, but in most cases it's livestock. It's a completely different story from killing Fido.

However, I think that it's probably a heck of a lot more disturbing and upsetting for this girl to find that it was HER dog being gift-wrapped and not some random stray off the street.

Also, in some countries (America) you can get busted for Cruelty to Animals (one guy in my county got busted because his dog was morbidly obese, like it was horrific to see this dog live because it could not support it's own weight.). If they catch this person, the violence towards the animal is another charge that can be placed upon them and that says something about people's mindset toward animals.

This reminds me one thing from my school. It was on my friends class, though.

They had a biology, and the teacher asked if somebody had a dead animal to bring so that they would examine it.

Well, my friend's friend said that he had his cat. He then took a shotgun and personally shot the cat to the head and bought it to the class next time.
They then examined its corpse.

Cruel? Well, me and all of my friends thought too, but that guy just didn't. :-/

I was quite humorous in a dark way, when he said:
"I can bring my cat!"
"Is it dead?"
"Not yet."

What a god damn bastard. What would bring him to do something like that? I wan't to know how that person even knew her.

This reminds me of another animal creulty story I heard a few months ago.. I think a few months anyway...... Well, anyway, this guy got super pissed at his dog, so he chained the dog to his care and went for a 15 minute drive. He dragged the dog along the street. Bystandes called the police and he was arrested immediatly. But this is much worse. I hope that guy dies of a horrible skin disease and rots in hell...

It really makes me wonder how my dog died........
