Ghost Lantern: Project Afterlife

Ghost Lantern: Project Afterlife

Story:
The game is about the afterlife and the basis of the plot is about Yurei reclaiming her rule over the underworld after it has been taken over by a demon known only as the shadow, the shadow stole the power of death from the mighty '*End-Soul' ( *tentative name ) and is using this power to torment people through wars, violence, e.t.c. Basically you explore the underworld reviving sanctuaries by defeating enemies and finally a boss enemy each sanctuary until you gain enough power to defeat the shadow in the sanctuary of light.

Characters:
The main character is a young woman called Yurei ( ghost in Japanese ) she used to be the goddess of death and is loosely based of Yuki Onna

So far I have created her soul reaper outfit ( sort of like the classic grim reaper robes ) and a few face-sets.

Face-sets.
I'm sure you've already seen these as my avater...yes I liked them that much  but they took up to three hours to make from scratch.

Here is the sprite.

Their are other characters to be added like her Scythe, a Fox-man called Rain, a Raven and a few other main characters I will introduce when I have enough content to show you.

Enemies
You have to fight against Yōkai ( evil-spirits ) that have turned against you and are under control by the shadows curse. After you defeat the boss demon the yōkai in that area return to their senses and become NPC's with valuable information as to where you can find the shadow, what lies ahead, e.t.c.

here is one of the yōkai, temple-head, sort of a cross between an Egyptian mummy and a mask

Folklore and Different beliefs on the Afterlife:

I am going to sort of merge a few different views on the afterlife to create a diverse game world and characters, mainly Japanese and some Egyptian and Greek mythology because they are most interesting. The boss monsters will be related to these mythologies like Tengu, Ra and Eris and some places from their respective mythological backgrounds will be included in the game world.

Screen-shots:

The progress in making the game is still relatively early but here are a few screen-shots. Oh and the battle system is PRABS
( PR's Action Battle System ) for a sort of Zelda-ish like game-play.

I really like this. Its a very interesting concept. I'm interested to see how you are weaving all those intricate mythologies into the game. Looking forward to this, keep up the good work.

Yeah definetly, So far I'm getting as many personifications of death and creating outfits for them, so far I've already created the classic grim reaper, Yuki Onna and I'm reading more into other beleifs on how they imagine death to look like...

Yama ( or Yamaraj ) who is a 4-handed-elephant-riding blue-death-god ( from indian mythology )and the Ankou a tall, haggard figure with a wide hat and long white hair or a skeleton with a revolving head who sees everybody everywhere ( from Celtic Breton folklore ) if you want you could help me find as many personifications of death, I'll have to convert all into a female character to fit the protagonist though

She's naked throughout the whole game, I'm sold.

 :thumb:

The good news is I'm shifting to RMXP and using the XAS Battle System by Moghunter instead because XP has a lot more mapping capabilities so I can really get into making the game world as fits their mythology or at least something inspired by them. The bad news is the demo wont be as soon as I hoped but I wont rush it either.
