Gallows *WIP*

Seems pretty good so far. A few ways you could make it better would be:

Add some contrast to the rope. It has so much less than the actual gallows it looks out of place

Your shadows are out of wack. Get some legos or some clay and mold your general shape and shine a flashlight on it an you will see what I mean. The shadows the way you have them are physically impossible XD

I would say increase the height of the piece with the rope because arshes there would probably be able to survive a hanging on that by spreading his legs.

Try to also add some details in the wood planks. Chances are this gallows has been used before so the wood shouldn't be in perfect condition. A few gnarls and such would work wonders.

As for other ideas, try this: http://folk.ntnu.no/erlenkra/Daily%20Ra ... 20Time.htm

it seems a little strange how the rope's thickness goes from a single pixel to two -- if anything else, it looks like a bit of thread stuck to the top of the gallows (that somehow bisects itself at one point -- or wait is that a noose?) if it's all supposed to be the same piece of rope, I'd suggest you thicken it up so it's constant.

They are in fact two pieces of rope, I should probably clear that up in the tiles. ANd thanks for pointing out the shadow problem, I assume you mean the tops of the wood, which I have forgotten to fix it up after moving it.

Finally, the two pixel rope in the middle doesn't have a noose, as i'm going to make some hanging sprites with the noose on them.

Peace

The gallows look nice, but they need some sort of stairs or something so that there's a logical way up there (that matches nicely). For other "excutionary" things, might I suggest the block? It's what was most popular in midieval times.

Other suggestions: guillotine, electric chair, cages with deadly animals, burying alive (or just open graves)...
Or just watch Saw I to V, and recreate that stuff

On the shadows I meant on top of the wood and below the structure. When I said get some legos and build this and shine a flashlight on it, I wasn't kidding. It seems like you have 4 or 5 different directional lights and an ambient light that only affects certain random parts of the structure.

Crazy, I was totally planning on making gallows for months but I haven't had time.

Definitely fix your shadows, and use Arshes as a unit of measurement - the cross bar has to be at least 1.25 Arshes from the platform, and at the very least 1.5 to 2 Arshes from the ground.  If it's shorter than arshes from crossbar to platform, he'll be knocking his head when he goes up to be hanged - and if it's not another arshes or so to the ground, he'll just stand on his tippy-toes and avoid being asphyxiated.

Definitely add stairs - no one wants to see an executioner ambling up like a monkey.

It isn't asphyxiation that kills you from a gallows, anyway :p The fall breaks your neck.

The biggest problem is definitely the shadows, though.
