Galaxy Tileset

hey everyone im currently working on a galaxy tileset for my star wars game i've only started on a few planets so far and i wonder what you thought:

i know the planets are small but i needed them that way im adding more planets as we speak tell me what you think:
the planets go from left to right:
tatioone, naboo, kiffex & kiffu, Hoth, Zeltros, Bastion, Pydyr & Almania, Coruscant, Ambria, Lok, Dagobah, Kashyyyk, Nkllon

problem is, what would you need that for? don't you think a picture would be better?
agree with it..
Doesn´t matter if you make a Map or Worldmap with it.. but with pictures, it will look better.. especially if you zoom the plantes to make the sun-system look more 3D

Well, there is one problem when you're making a tileset for something like this: Light source. the sun is going to be in different positions each time someone uses it, so how can you really get the shading right?

I don't think they all share the same sun/star.

Not to mention some of those planets belong to binary star systems. Isn't that the case with Tatooine?

As for using pictures or a tileset, I guess that is each person's personal choice.

EDIT,

in fact come to think of it. Star Wars doesn't take place in a solor system but rather a Galaxywide setting. So you might want to rethink how you plan your tileset. Have a galaxy spiral as the background, include your stars if you will. And place the planets on where it is in the spiral. Include a large expanse for extra info like the Hutt territory and the unknown regions. Of course planetary placement and names are subject to the timeline your game takes place in. Is it before the original films? after? during? Does it include other media information such as the books  or games?

the picture isnt an exact copy of the star wars universe i was only using it as an example but yeah i wasnt going to include suns just because if you wanted to make a make  of the star wars galaxy on a mmap it would be huge, so i was think of putting on the planets on

Well, they kinda just look like images of planets, resized, for one. For another, don't be afraid to break the 32x32 pixel grid on the tileset. Right now the planets just kinda look like tiny, horribly pixellated marbles.

Don't just resize and outline: You gotta pixel them in!

Look at the background: the planets floating in space. They look distant, and cohesively pixelled. Also they're differing sizes.

Look at the planets. They're vibrantly colored and have limited palettes, and intricate textures.

Hope that helps!

Yoiu could use this like if you wanted to have the planet highlighted.  or like you going to a planet and it glows slightly when your there.  Something like that.

I think Charactersets of planets would be better. that way you could make them different sizes, and even make them rotate on the map.

I could do a Google search for photos of planets and resize them to tile size, but I don't. Why? Because I'd like to think I have more sense than that. Why not try making some in Paint instead?

As long as everyone is throwing in their two cents, I just had the idea you could actually do your planets as sprites, that would allow you to do things like enlarge them when you come closer using events, highlight them, make them rotate, etc.  Or better yet do a sprite representation of their entire solar system in motion with no restrictions on scale.  Then you could use a nice big full color picture of a galaxy as a panorama background and actually have no tileset.  Or you could do that, but use the tileset for icons, names, or what have you.  In any case good luck with it.
