The Ultimate Saga isn't just a game. It's the ULTIMATE game. How ultimate? So ultimate. More ultimate than your body has room to handle. And it's an entire saga. A WHOLE SAGA. Do you even know how much that is, in dog years?
But on a more serious note, the ultimate saga is essentially a parody game. Of JRPG's in general, but more specifically, fan RPG's. It's like your friend's first game, back in middle school. The game is inspired a lot by Mother 3, it's really light hearted and goofy, while combat is still balanced in such a way as to always feel fair and fun- unlike your friend's actual first game.
If you're looking for a not too long but still fun 10-20 hour game, depending on your completion level and overall speed (I've had reports of 11-17 hours, with some hinting by me) that doesn't try hard to be anything it isn't, and has really fun characters and dialogue, then you're in the right place.
The game contains 16 dungeons, 20 characters, 15 of them being optional, and multiple towns, classes, etc., There's plenty of variety, and I tried to make sure that the dungeons that do exist are generally unique from a play perspective relative to each other (although not necessarily in the grand scheme of things.)
The game is fully tested, and while I am aware of one or two bugs that exist, they were left in intentionally (because they were hilarious) and shouldn't be able to actually damage your saves or progress in any meaningful way. The game is laid back- enjoy it.
With all that said, if you're looking for something unbelievably artistic- with gorgeous maps and a deep compelling storyline, with long drama and 40+ hours of open world questing time, then this game isn't for you. This is the kind of game where the title screen will misspell itself, some of the chests are full of bats, and none of the main characters can spell properly. This is a game for people who just want to have fun for twenty minutes. There is no required grinding- although adding a couple levels might reduce the difficulty a bit, there are no box puzzles, and the single fetch quest in the game is the shortest fetch quest known to man.
It embraces genre conventions, and then laughs at them with it's next breath.
They're not anything special, because it's hard to really show off anything about it without ruining parts of it, but I did decide to give show off some mapping, characters, Dog's skill list, and a bit of the kind of stupid dialogue style you can expect from this project.

For the scripts that made this terribly, terribly stupid game possible
And the artists whose sprites I used without writing down proper credentials for. This includes the animal facesets, the art for Gear the Mechanical Guy, the robot art, and all non-RTP animal sprites. Basically everything that isn't from the RTP, not a voice over, and not very terrible in quality (Egbert, Asharya, and Lady are all custom work) was done by another artist, and when I eventually track you all down you will receive your credit.
Whatever your feelings are- whether they be "I like the humor style in this game" or "this is the stupidest project I've ever heard of" or "no seriously Rey you suck and I hate you and you're also fat" please leave a comment. I have access to the download numbers and all, but I really do enjoy the feedback- even the more negative stuff. : )
