Forever Zero 2

Now before any questions are asked about this. Yes, a Forever Zero 1 game has not been created yet, the storyline is here, yet it is not "in RMXP" form. I originally made it for RPG Maker 2. Anyway I have decided to do this in a way of Star wars triolgy per say. Releasing the sequel before the prequel.


Prologue


As our story begins we enter a world of modern to post modern times. A war has began between the Silver Empire and the Magma Empire, involving many towns and people. Mimes School, the military school for Silver Empire, trains their students to defend the Silver Empire.

Enter: Gust.

You begin as one of those students living their life of that military unit. However, this is not the main theme. Gust encounters a dragon and a mysterious girl on his way to Mimes school along with his best friend Brad. From then on, events twist and the world expands.

That is the basic intro storyline. I tried to not put in much story simply because this is a Prologue, not a storyline.

Name: Gust
Age:16
Weapon: Naginata (swallow)
Character Model: Has black hair, has a tanish appearance. He wears a red bandana. His clothes are similar to of Serge from Chrono Cross.
Description: Self confident. Normally a calm person but can lose it when his emotions get in the way. He joins Mimes military school to protect Siros, but in the end he just wants to extract revenge. Early in his life his whole life was taken away by the dragons. The dragons killed his parents and destroyed his house leaving him to death. Luckily he was rescued by a local orphanage where he met Brad and Slasher. That is why he swears he will kill any dragon he ever sees in hopes that it is the same dragons that destroyed his life.

Name: Brad
Age: 15 (He is six months younger than Gust.)
Weapon: Bows.(Bow guns, long bow, short bow, and crossbows) later on in the second half he equips guns(some containing magic some not)
Character Model: Has blue hair spiked up like Vash from Trigun. He wears a blue vest and stainless black pants. To show his friendship to Gust he wears a yellow bandanna.
Description: He is best friends with Gust. He met him in the orphanage along with Slasher. He has no recollection of his past. He follows Gust in order to find out why his parents abandoned him in the orphanage. Also in hopes that he will become a successful soldier of war.

Name: Slasher
Age: 18
Weapon: Claws
Character Model: He has a hair style similar to Kenshin from the Samurai X series but his hair is yellow. He wears an open vest with teeth shaped edges. His pants resemble parachute pants.
Description: He has looked over Gust and Brad ever since they lived in the orphanage. He is one of Mimes most promising students. He keeps himself closed off when he is serious, but other than that he is an open person.(and often has smart remarks)

Name: Rosa
Age: (15?)
Weapon: Rapiers, long sword and short swords ( the only one who uses bucklers)
Character Model: She has blue short floppy hair. She wears a red hairband and a red scarf. She wears a black blouse and wears a blue robe over it.
Description: She was found in mimes cave one day when Gust and Brad were heading to Mimes. She has some memory lost when they the first met, but later when they meet her sister her memory shortly recovers. She becomes a holy mage but unlike any other mage she uses swords rather than the standard and usual staves and rods.

Name: Terra
Age: (15 ?)
Weapon: Rods that can detach into nunchakus
Character Model: Being that Rosa is her twin sister their appearance looks the same. The only different is that Terra has red hair. She has two feathers in her hair one red and one blue which are held together by a white bandanna.
Description: Gust and company meet her doing Rosa's trials. She immediately shows a liking to Gust. Terra finds herself in competition with Rosa for Gust later on. She has the dark ring of love when they first meet. No one knows what this means yet, but one thing is for certain it some hidden powers.

Known Bugs.
Upon Mimes, the Chief's office must be entered from the right side or the game will hang.

I hoped to add more, rather delay me posting this topic, however, my graphic artist still working on quite a few things.

As you can see from the demo I have posted, images are missing.

Also, I would like to say, alot of things are subject to change, as this is the alpha phase, though I did just post the demo of the game, I felt not posting it would have been quite an empty of a project discussion topic.

As it's the summer, I'm going to try to complete as much as possible before college starts up again. I don't plan on transferring to XP. Would take quite a while. I may have to look for a new spriter because I know Hydrolic msn got hacked and I never managed to get his new MSN. So if anyone would like to sprite for me let me know. As for now, I'll be adding the v2 of the alpha demo. Should be up by tomorrow morning. Waiting for my artist pictures. I still have alot of temporary images up.

Isn't a Naginata completely different from a swallow? Lovely artworks. Always refreshing to see some original content. :)
 
The standard Naginata is a spear that has a long tip yes, but there are also naginata's that are built like a swallow but slightly larger.
 
Yay for custom facesets. One thing I'd like to note is that the maps seem quite square-ly and often dull. Try reading a few mapping tutorials and you'll get better. :) Sadly, visual screenshots are often the first impression that the game has on people, and by improving them you'll attract a lot more attention.

Thanks for your comment, Trying to recruit a mapper at the moment, I decided to re-work everything, battle system, menus ect. Hopefully it will work out
 
This seems interesting. The story's rather decent, the mapping's okay, but odd at some places (such as the introduction map could've been much better).

The game, by the looks of the screen shots, seem fun to play, and it seem to have some decent gameplay and some nice areas to explore, such as the Forest of Dreams (rather cliche name ain't it?).

So I played your demo, and what I took notice of was that the grammar could have been a lot better. The battle system, well, I can't complain really, but I'm no fan of timers and stuff like that; specially not when it's done using a menu, but that's just me.

So most of the sprites are fake ones, as explained in the first post? Very well then, I can't complain on them even if they weren't.

Well, I suppose, keep this going and I'll pay a visit as frequently as I can.
 
Ah finally some critism! Thank you I really appreciate it. Well first off I'm still learning the ways of mapping, and you can probably tell as the game progress so does my mapping skills. I'll prob re-due them by the end of the day if their is time, (er end of the day meaning the development). Meh and also Forest Of Dreams has a meaning to it, didn't want to call it something like Grimore Forest or anything or it would have deprived the meaning.

As for the battle system, i'm changing to a animated battlers form, so thats not real either lol, and yeah sprites ect are fake as well. But thats basically it, I guess you could say this is really a tech demo rather then a real one. Thank you for your critisim and comments once again.
 
I'd suggest that once you've come far and your mapping skills have improved quite a lot, you go back and improve every other map you've made. You can always improve that natural looks, feeling and details of a map (or at least, almost always, not if it's already perfect :D).

I've been using the Forest Temple music from OOT in my side-project. It's quite nifty, works well in cave dungeons!

Anyway, what I want the most is better grammar and more riddles rather than just following the road and voila, you did it. I like it when you need to pick up items, push rocks, step on switches in order and so forth. Dungeons with loads of riddles, with basic enemy encounters, mini-bosses and final boss(es) is really an awesome thing in role playing games. That's why I enjoyed every Zelda game :D

Alright thank you for your comments, I will take this into heavy consideration. I plan to furnish things like puzzles later on in the game as of right now, it is in cruise control so to speak. And yeah OOT soundtrack is ftw.
 
Excuse the extreme lack of updates, with finals, and me waiting on my mapper to finish the Capital City I was at quite a stand still. Not to mention my lead artist seem to lost internet access so all my artwork is pretty void as of now.
 
I couldn't have been bothered to read through this entire thing, your story sounds really cliche, but hey, I didn't read all of it. The characters seem like they have some thought put into them, so props to you for that, and your screenshots don't look too bad at all. Good luck with this.
 
Alright, I got a new artist for the team, the person who drew the original works has been fired i'm afraid. (She went MIA from the entire internet) I currently have two artist working on a new concept art for the characters. Hydrolic can't make sprites for the characters til then sadly, and our title artist seems semi MIA so I may need to get an artist for that as well. Sorry for the lack of updates, this is almost looking like a game to be scrapped, but I rather die than for that to happen. Anyway, I hope to update the arts soon, editing out the previous art.
 
Oh, I'd recommend getting a non-rtp window skin somewhere, easy to do and gives a nice touch. :)

And I really like that last capital city screenshot, it looks very nice. :D


The MIA member incident sucks; sorry that happened. (It's actually one of the main reasons why I don't want to have team members for my project.) Good luck with getting it back together!
