My 1st review: Kashi Blackberry Graham Soft-Baked Cereal Bars

51gmI4oQvOL.01._SR300,300_.jpg

My rating:

I've been eating a lot of cereal bars lately. Usually stick with Kellogg's Nutri-Grain Cereal Bars, which are pretty good. Saw these in the store the other day though, and said "why not?". I am a big fan of blackberries.

This is not great. The bar itself is a little smaller than the Nutri-Grain one, despite having 10 calories more (130/bar). It's EXTREMELY soft, like weirdly soft. The Nutri-Grain one has some texture to it, but the Kashi bars are basically formed mush.
The blackberry filling is not good either. Has a gritty texture and is way overly sweet.

I think that little kids might like this bar more than the Nutri-Grain one, since kids like super soft, super sweet things. But I personally don't recommend it and won't buy it again~

(If you like Cereal Bars ... just stick to Nutri-Grain.)

Costco Hotdog

Rating:

Every now and then, I'm at Costco, and on the way out there's a food court, simple thing that works really well due to placement. They sell a variety of things. At my place there's churros, pizza, hotdogs, swirlie and ice cream and crap.

And I gotta say

They do it very well. *Very* well. It's not like it's gonna be the best of anything you'll eat - there's no special sauce, there's no special ingredient, there's just your choice of... beef or polish, if I recall correctly. You've got a series of basic hotdog condiments to choose from, such as ketchup, relish, mustard, and onions. Additionally, they have give you a cup to get your choice of drinks.

Hey guys it's pretty good. Nothing's done bad. The bread, the dog, the condiments, all of it is done well, and fresh, and tastes just good. There are places that make better hotdogs, sure, but at my Costco this shit is damn fine.

Notably, the price is AMAZING. 1 dollars 50 cents. You've got unlimited refills on your drink, you can get as much condiments as you want. Geez, this is cheaper than probably any other deal of the same thing out there.

Solid food, and stunning pricing. The variety of the condiments (onions, relish, mustard) as well as the bread make it a fair bit healthier than other choices (such as the pizza/churro/icecream), assuming you don't go crazy with soda on your unlimited refills. If nothing else the price makes it one of the cheapest lunches around.

MiO is your run of the mill drink enhancer. Not unlike Crystal Light, these things are simply pour and shake, and you have a tastier version of water. The difference -- a big one, if I say so myself -- is that MiO is not a powder. It's a really potent liquid that you add in drops to your drink. This gets rid of the ever-prevalent grainy texture I've noticed in Crystal Light and other powder additives.

The deal you nab when buying these depends largely on how strong you like your drinks. I added around four droplets into my 17 oz. bottles of water and my MiO lasted me about two weeks. Mind you, I don't mind having little flavor. If you're seeking really strong taste, you won't get near the longevity I did.

There's a decent variety of flavors to choose from already, and the stuff is fairly new, so there's surely more on the way. I'm a fan of the Peach Tea and Lemonade flavors, as well as the Sweet Tea, but be warned; that last one is very weak.

Awesome Bro

Hmm, I'd love to try something like MiO out... wonder if we've got anything like it in the UK, since I assume in the long run it's cheaper than buying flavoured water too...

I'm not sure how they go about selling it overseas...

Here's a list of the stores it's sold at; see if you see any Europe exclusive ones on there.

Hmm, I've never heard of any of those stores... but surely there's something LIKE it over here, if not maybe I can check like eBay or Amazon or something

Nandos Sweet Potato Mash

Dunno what you call them in America, yams?

nando-682_1062300a.jpg

Anyway, just skin, boil for 10, then mash that shit with a whisk with some salt, butter, bit of milk.

Or if you can't be arsed, get it from Nandos with your chicken. Goes so well with chicken and peri peri sauce, goddamn. I could just sit there with the mash and peri peri sauce all night for that matter.

Rating:

Beats normal mash so hard it bleeds out both ends. Anyway, worth the extra money for it being a "gourmet side" or whatever they call it.

Seconding this, I always keep these a couple of these in my purse and a couple in my desk at work. They taste really great and last me about 2-3 weeks drinking 1-2 500 mL bottles a day. I've only seen Mango Peach, Strawberry Watermelon, Blueberry Pomegranate, and Fruit Punch. I'll have to look for Lemonade and Peach Tea!

It's also 0 calories unlike Crystal Lite.

Wasabi and Soy Almonds

Rating:

I know there are a bunch of weird flavors for a bunch of weird things but i swear these are some of the best flavor things I have ever had. Picked these up on a whim because they sounded pretty different.

First off these things are pretty spicy. Like wasabi spicy. They have that hot kick to them and they burn your nostrils. I think that is what makes them so good; you dont expect them to be so spicy. The soy sauce flavoring just adds salt really. If you like almonds definitely pick them up esp if you like spicy things. They are pretty good to munch on~

Old El Paso fajita mix

My rating: :barf: :barf: :barf: :barf: :barf:

I remember when I was around 15 trying my first fajita at my friend's place. His dad is known for making a variety of different foods (such as his meatball subs / homemade pizza... mmmm), and had made us a bunch of fajitas, which were bloody amazing. I hadn't eaten them in 5 years, and came across this box one day at the grocery store. Like a kid in a candy shop, I grabbed a box and rushed to the cashier where I eagerly awaited the trip home to cook these mofos.

I followed the directions, cooked it all up, wrapped them, took a bite... and my fucking god they were the worst things I've ever eaten in my life. Tasted like liquid shit mixed with other grodes things, I insta-spat what was in my mouth into the garbage, and tossed the food away knowing that somewhere a kid who was starving would turn these down.

Never. Fucking. Again.

I always custom-make fajitas ... They're really easy, just steak/chicken tossed with veggies in a frying pan. If you don't have tortilla dough, use pre-made tortillas, spray with a liiittle spray-on olive oil, then fry on frying pan for about 20-30sec. per side (surprisingly tastier than not cooking them at all!).

The seasoning is: chili powder, paprika, salt, crushed boullion cubes, cayenne, garlic powder, cumin, cornstarch, and garlic powder. I also add Sazón Goya (which is basically MSG) with coriander and cilantro, but those are things not everyone will be happy about. If you can find saffron, it pairs very well with chicken.

Or you can just buy pre-made fajita seasoning too (but you may need to add cayenne to make it spicier b/c the premade is never very spicy).

And that's it, really. I used to eat them all the time when losing weight. If you use lean meat and very little oil, the worst thing for you in there is the tortilla. For that reason though I always used corn tortillas (there are whole wheat ones too but I find those gross).

What did the Fajita Mix come with?? Just tortillas and seasoning? I can't imagine it came with meat or veggies?

It came with just the tortillas and seasoning, I had to provide the chicken and veggies (what a waste of chicken, too  ). I've never bought it since, and don't trust any pre-made dry sauce mixes. I'll give that recipe a try though whenever I feel like a fajita, does it come out really thick?

Now its hardly a well kept secret that I adore Pringles, I would almost go as far to say I would prefer any flavour Pringles over any (/best) flavours of other crisps (or potato chips for you americans!). So you might want to take this review with a pinch of salt, or just consider it a comparison review with the other flavours...

I literally love this flavour, it actually pushes out (the somewhat hard to find in smaller stores) Prawn Cocktail and (everyone's favourite) Sourcream & Onion flavours! As usual with Pringles, they are packed with flavour. I find the balance of sweetness and Thai flavouring to be very agreeable. But come on, these have 'chili' in the name! How do they spice? Well, compared to Doritos' Chili Heatwave, they blow those out of the water; I can eat an entire large pack of Chili Heatwave with just a soft tingle from the spice... After about quarter/third of the tube of Pringles, and I'm in need of water or a momentary break (I do that thing where you open your mouth in a meagre attempt to extinguish the spiciness!) I will say that Doritos' limited edition Jalapeno Fire does push Pringles' Thai Sweet Chili out the way in terms of spiciness, without a second thought. But don't quite match up in the taste department.

I hope this is a useful review; and yes, these are a new flavour! :)

Does what come out thick?

... Sauce? Fajitas don't need sauce. The word "Fajita" is basically "little belts" in Spanish, referring to the thinly sliced meat and veggies.

I don't make them with sauce personally, and will only add sour cream if I feel like it needs it. I also like to add a healthy squeeze of lime, though surprisingly, many people I've met who have never eaten true Mexican food cringe at adding lime to burritos or tacos. So try it first.

You coat the veggies and meat in the seasoning before you fry it, so everything comes out tasty & juicy :)

If you feel like it NEEDS sauce for some reason (don't know why), try a liiiiiittle:
- Worcestershire and/or soy sauce + corn starch, for beef
- Lemon + pepper + corn starch, for chicken
- Mojo dressing/marinade, for pork

I don't know what awful goop that box forced you to make but I've never had fajitas like that. I grew up in Southern Cali and learned to make Mexican food straight out of the frying pans of illegal immigrants. Mexican food should always be incredibly simple main ingredients, with vibrant, tangy, and spicy seasonings.

Also try it with Mahi Mahi fish, shrimp, lobster, or potatoes (yes, diced potatoes--literally, french fries!).
You wouldn't think so, but potatoes are a VERY popular Mexican staple food as of the last 100 years.

Thank god. When I made it, it was coated in this disgusting, thick sewage (I was baffled by it since I didn't remember the fajitas I had before looking like it).

Once again, home-made is better.

Ta again for the recipe :3

No prob! I hope it goes well <3

@Xhukari: I've never seen that flavor! It sounds really good though :O

@Ysbri: I actually tried MiO a little while ago and I thought it was pretty good (and I usually dislike flavored water stuff)! I agree with your    .

Yeah it might be because the flavour could be suffering the same fate as Prawn Cocktail; seemingly only the bigger stores will stock it. (the smaller ones defaulting to the other flavours)
