Folklore (PS3)

Anybody else here play this extremely entertaining sleeper hit?

It's sort of a cross between a Neil Gaiman novel and the Persona series (Yes I think it's that interesting)... with a bit of Kuzunoha Raidou thrown into it.

Basically you play as this teenaged girl in search of her mother who has to go to the fairy realm / netherworld in order to find her.

The game also makes good use of the SIXAXIS controller (capturing demons, yanking and shaking them and whatnot). You capture "folks" for combat and exploration etc.

Anyway this is a discussion topic for likes / dislikes / favorite folk etc.

':| sigh. I really like this game.

Actually it was the demos that convinced me to get this. I mean all the games were so nice... Heavenly Sword itself looks pretty damn good for a first generation ps3 title, I could swear the finally hit moves looked like they were out of a pre-made FMV... but I picked this one for now.

But yeah, it's fun fishing for the Ids of the folks. Plus, me and the heroine totally hit it off -_-

On a side note... GRAW 2 demo was pretty fun. Hmm. Too many games to buy.

the game is awesome so far. I wasnt so happy that the comic sequences were still there but i actually dont mind them now. The cutscenes themselves are awesome.

I really want this game to be a huge hit. ^_^

Im playing on Ellens story atm. Will starting Keats story delete ellens progress or can i play both at same time. Oh and i cant wait to start creating the dungeons, the whole idea of being rewarding points to unlock more space and rare monsters is ace. :D

@ darksora: It's advisable to play both sides alternately after the first 5 chapters or something, as the story is more consistent that way...

Yeah I agree, I think it's a bit too much of a "sleeper" at the moment, it really needs to gain more popularity. I want a sequel.

@ Mega Flare: I've just read the reviews for Lair - a game fundamentally based on SIXAXIS and as gorgeous as that... that's another one for my buying list.

they are already working on a psp game. Sony are working really hard with the developers to make this a huge franchise which is awesome.

Holy Fuck. I just read the news about Folklore PSP and apparently Cozy Okada developed Folklore. No wonder -_-

He was one of the original Shin Megami Tensei developers before he left Atlus and started his own company...

I'm so stupid! I didn't know T_T no wonder I love this game so much, I have an affinity for anything remotely megaten...

I played the demo and found it to be rather fun, I'm not sure whether it's really worth buying right now, as the text is quite hard to read on my tiny TV. I'm getting a new one come christmas, so we'll see then.

I always made a point that this would be the first PS3 game I'd buy if (or more accurately WHEN) I get a PS3... unless I buy the PS3 when Little Big Planet or MGS4 comes out. Then Folklore will have to wait.

I've been following this game because of it's awesome graphical style and cool looking gameplay. It kind of reminded me of a Japanese version of Fable except with less broken features. I haven't got to play a demo of it yet, but I've seen every video and I want it really, really badly.

But as a side note, the NA box art is horrible. I don't understand why we get different boxart when the EU or JP releases are infinitely better. It's like the localization team sits down and says "Okay, the JP and EU box art is beautiful... let's ruin the NA boxart by bringing in an amateur, telling them about the game, but not showing them what it looks like."

It's no surprise in my mind that it's a sleeper hit because with a box this bad, I'd never buy it if I hadn't already been following it. Compare that to this:

Yeah. Rant over. I'm getting this game.

Ah, i have been dying for this game since i played the demo. But i have no money at the moment *dies*

The feel of the game reminds me of the first Shadow Hearts game for some reason. Which i REALLY liked. So I really cant wait to get around to playing it.

Plus, i heard it has an awesome story and any game with a great story is an instant win on my side.

I played the demo yesterday and I enjoyed it, so there's a big chance I might buy it. I just HATE how these next gen games are kinda' expensive... or atleast PS3 is.. but hey whatever that's life.

I like how the sixaxis is incorporated into catching ids. Cool stuff

Wow *hadn't seen the EU cover yet* It's a lot better than ours and the Japanese cover. (I kind of like our cover more than the Japanese one too. But maybe that's just me.)

Anyway, I just started this game today and played the prologue of each character. (played the demo as Ellen at an earlier date) It's a lot of fun so far. And I really like the game's look---and the game's music. (oh the music...it's so wonderful!)

Everyone here seems to like Ellen...I don't know...I like Keats. *sucker for men with glasses*

Hehe, Keats is so my buddy Nick (aka veilthedarkness aka captain indy aka codeveloper of Canadian Knights)

BTW, I lied, I didn't buy it today. I decided to wait until I know how much my next check is gonna be :(

I'm definitely getting this one, I Loved the demo, and I was looking forward to it way before i got to play it so, yeah.
this one definitely goes to my collection.
