First try at spriting redux

I posted the original sprite here a long time ago and I just recently got back into rpgmaker and I decided
to redo my first sprite that I did for my game:
here is the old:        and the new:

well this was a revamp of the shading, I added some colours and changed some palettes

In my opinion, Mascarpone is right about it being a little flat. Aside from some of the shading, I think the issue is the feet, since they aren't curved at the bottom in either version. It makes it look like he's coming from head on, as opposed to from a birds eye view, which is the perspective RMXP uses. I would definitely suggest rounding them out a little.

As for the hair, I think the old one looked more natural. The new one looks a little bit like it's divided into two chunks, and isn't attached to the scalp. Also, the lines of the individual strands of hair could probably be thinned out a little more. That's probably why the old hair looks better in my opinion.

thanks so far.
I agree with you guys about it looking a little flat I'll have to put more work into fixing that.
About the hair, the separate piece was intentional it was how the old rtp I was using as a reference was done.
I've been having a hell of a time finding a hair I like, I wasn't too fond of the old hair style wise and now you guys are making me unhappy with the new hair.

keep the tips comming

The feet look much better than the old version, it looks more natural now. It still looks flat, though. Maybe you could try a different palette, with more contrast in it (particularly for the hair)? Even if more contrasting colours don't help, it might help you see other ways to make it stand out more.

Overall, a good sprite. Well done.

It looks better to me.
For the hair, I do think that the outline and maybe the darkest shades could be darker to add some contrast, and perhaps you could experiment with tinting some of your grey shades with colour.  Something seems a little off about the shading on the shoulders and pants, but I'm not exactly sure what it is.   Also, I like the face; it gives the sprite a lot of personality.  Congrats on all the improvements, especially compared to the first version.  :thumb:

Thanks a lot for the tips I decided to just redo the shading on the jacket and I tried to fix up the shading everywhere else.
I hope this makes it look a little less flat.

Very sexy indeed. There's something amiss with the red parts on his legs, maybe the contrast is too high? Very good tho.
