First time making a sprite

So I'm making my first ever sprite because I feel I should learn this stuff if I want to make games with RPG Maker.  This is a cleric type character I'm making and I know he needs a lot of work so any suggestions would be great.

I'm using the base model from Character Maker XP, I have no clue who made it so I can't really credit anyone.

REALLY? It's a guy? I seriously thought it was a girl at first.

The sprite lacks a lot of shading. The hair could lose the outlines, but I'm not sure about that. The clothing seems to have single - two color base. Look at some of the RTP sprites (the ones with a robe or skirt) to show you how the robe technically goes then the shading around it.

Aside from that, you should lose the black outline around the clothing.
