First Sprite RIP TO SHREADS *please*

Well, his hat is pillowshaded and his right arm looks like he has a huge growth on his elbow, but for your first sprite I'd give it a 9/10.

Er, no, the hat isn't pillowshaded. It's actually my favorite part of this sprite.

Parts of this need a lot more contrast. The gray palette is really flat and washed out, although the hat and shoes don't look too bad. Also, his anatomy is kind of weird; the feet are at an odd angle (might just be the way you shaded them), and the right leg isn't shaped the same as the left and doesn't really appear to be at a different angle. The arms are also different lengths without the shorter one looking foreshortened. In general, work on defining the shape of his body more and using shading not just to color things but also to imply distance (bright things appear to be closer). It's pretty good for a first attempt, but using templates has the advantage of getting the anatomy right.

Thank's Peri, you've made some good points, i'm going to try what you suggested. The shoes are shaded wrong, your'e right, i'll fix that and see if it helps.

Any suggestions for a better pallete, i'd prefer if I coul use blues instead of black, but I couldn't get the suit to look dark without being obviously blue.

And yes, the hat is the part i'm proudest of. I seem to be better at shading then highlighting, which seems odd...

Thanks, keep the crits comming ^_^

Well, it depends on the style you're going for. This looks rather 8-bit, which if you were going for this is good. Today, however, you are not limited to so few colors. I would say add a shade or two to the shading of the armor.
