All begins with the Essence
All returns to the Essence
For hundreds of years, the ancient Salforians thrived to create some magical force. The solution came when they found a way to open an inter-dimensional rift and absorb souls from what they believe to be called the Essence. Without a host for these souls to embody in the mortal realm they were housed inside sacred crystals. Mighty Revenants appeared to defend the Essence but they to were sealed away in crystals. Eventually the ancient Salforians realized what they were doing was evil and they destroyed all methods of opening the rift.
Thousands of years later, the Qaros Empire finds an enigmatic crystal and their conquest to become a world super power flourishes.

Keira was born to Grand General Talon Stallard, a high ranking military official of Qaros. Wishing to follow in his footsteps, she enrolled herself into the Elite Military Academy of Qaros and has great pride for her nation. She believes it is her destiny to help create the most powerful empire on the planet...

Storm (Ex-Lieutenant Highwind)
Age: 26
Class: Dragoon
Story Class: Former Lieutenant of the Qaron Security Front; Rebel
Birthplace: Qaros City in “The Midplate”
Bio:
Storm defected from the empire because he knew in his heart what was going on. All the nefarious torture that is done. He lives in the povs helping children escape from the labs.

Jessen Vale
Age: 14
Class: Thief
Story Class: Crystal Research Specimen Escapee
Birthplace: Nation of Eldia
Bio:
Taken by some bums from Qaros for money, Jessen is still a strong spirited young boy though he isn’t as courageous as his older brother, Xander. To survive in the Povs he pickpockets from the other people and steals from the market place.

The Empire of Qaros
- The Government of Qaros is headed by the Honorable Premier Alvis who presides over the Senate. Alvis has recently promoted Senator Dice as his successor.
The City of Qaros
- The Qaros City is a metropolis made up of 3 layers, or “tiers.” Each tier is stacked on top of one another like a sandwich.
- The Heights is the top layer of Qaros, is inhabited by upper class citizens and is the location of the Imperial Senate Building.
- The Mid-plate is the mid layer of Qaros, is inhabited by middle class folk and is the location of “The City Bazaar”
- The Povs is the bottom most layer of Qaros, is inhabited by lower class people and is the location of the dreaded “Factory.”
The Military of Qaros
- The Army is led by Premiere Alvis, High General Talon and his daughter, Keira.
- The Security Front is led by Colonel Cyn, is responsible for the kidnapping of children, and all the secret dirty work of the empire.

Hi, since you don't have a demo available, I'm going to go ahead and treat this generally like a Concept Development topic.

I am Kristin Ferie and I am here to discuss this fangame. Yeah fangame. So what? It's not INCREDIBLY cliche... meh. Well, anyway. I guess I will start with my story:

As I've said in other posts, I'm really annoyed by all this dumb cliche talk. Nobody would give two fucks about whether or not a story was cliche so long as it is done well. Don't worry so much about breaking out of convention if you can do what is convention in an enjoyable, quality fashion.

Hundreds of years ago, a war between the world had taken place. This war was over the war of a single small crystal-like matter. This matter is known as Essence. This Essence is what keeps the world stable and safe. With the power of the Essence, one could fuse themselves with this power and be ultimate. This war soon ended when the Essence sealed itself deep into the Earth, although there was still controversy between the countries. What people didn't know is that the Essence had began to glow.

What happened to the people who had already been infused with the Essence, or has nobody managed to accomplish this? If it's the latter answer, why was Xyla the only person working with the Essence?

Because there is data or at least legends stating the power of the Essence, I would assume that you could fuse with the Essence in its solid form, so what's the purpose of making it liquid? How exactly do you come to the conclusion that young people are the ones you should be testing it on if it's killing the people being injected? The youth physiology isn't remarkably different from the adult makeup, if any at all, so why wouldn't they die, too?

If Qaros just means Chaos, why give it a different name at all?

In all their experimenting with the Essence, shouldn't they have come up with a counter-measure in case something like Dice happened? What happened to Xyla?

Your characters aren't really fleshed out whatsoever besides a brief description of what they do. Make them a little more interesting--give them more depth, talk more about their past and personalities, etc. What does Keira have to do with the story? Who are these other people that you have listed?

Your strengths definitely lie in your mapping and spriting, though. Though that is a borrowed tileset, the way you've set up most of it is well-done, though as you said, a little lacking in some areas (emptiness, namely). One thing that stood out to me was that last screenshot--it doesn't look like there's any way off the cliff.

The bottom line is that your storyline needs a lot of work, but I see that you've got a whole team of people chugging away at that now, so hopefully you can come up with something a little more substantial. If you've already done that, then make sure to keep your post updated so people don't get the wrong impressions.

I really like it when people do this because since I am a horrid topic maker, with people asking me questions, I think I'm able to flesh it out more.

No one had accomplished the infusion before. Everyone gave up because there was no way to get to it up because there was no way to get to it. Of course, you have newer technology. Well... technology is a lot more advanced in Qaros than the rest of the world (Japan of the Essence world). People in the past had given up on how to get the Essence power to work. As in, even if the humans took the crystal power all those years ago, they wouldn't have able to use it since it takes more that just that. I'm still trying to work some of these plot holes out, but I got the basics anyway. And Xyla of course wasn't the only one. She is the leader of the Project: Crystal.[/quote]

Like I said, the power of the essence needs to be in the the circulatory system. Just fusing yourself wouldn't really need to get it to work. And it wouldn't really just be liquifying it. It would be adding extra ingredients to it, and I'll get a better idea of that when more is developed with the concept. And the children were experimented on, not really a conclusion. Since adults are more pronable to heart attacks and stuff like that, it was more of a hypothesis. They wouldn't die because they are less prone to heart attacks and other types of attacks on a human body (stroke?). A child's body isn't as made up as an adult's.[/quote]

Well with Dice, there isn't anything they could really do. Super, non-human-like powers... I would be kind of scared, wouldn't you? Plus you have all the other injected people had a thurst for revenge as well, so they stood next to her. And Xyla still works for Qaros, working more on the Essence power, trying to make it available for everyone. But someone beats her to it. Of course I cannot say, buutt I'm sure you can try to guess.[/quote]

I wasn't too ready to post my characters. I have them fleshed out in my mind, but in digital... well... And Keira was one of the children who were injected with crystal dust, the Essence power. But like I said, I only went further with Keira and Xander because they are the main characters. Really really hard not to spoil Laine, but I guess I could explain her past. Storm is the wedge between Xander and Keira; he takes no sides of Eldia nor Qaros, although he works for Qaros.[/quote]

Thanks. And all I can say is just wait until the project is finished. Plus you can also use the airship, but just wait. That is Eldia, so they are protecting themselves.

Of course I didn't post all of the story. I should, though. My friend, sinmora, kind of fixes up my stories for me for posting, but I ways dying to post this because so many people were PMing me to. So I was like "Fine Fine I will." I wasn't ready. But please, everyone, don't get the wrong impression ^_^;;. I wasn't ready last time, but I am now. The old story kind of sucked (Digimon ripoff anyone?)

This project gives off the vibe of being rushed, the story was awkward to read and needs to be rewritten so it makes more sense and the story seems a bit silly, I mean if the sacred lands were there from when the essence went underground ages back then why is it only now that they're trying to use the concentrated energy from that area? Shouldn't they have wanted to search there years back when they were willing to kill each other for an inkling of this energy? It seems a bit unnecessary to wait a couple centuries to send soldiers down there. Unless they made a treaty that no one can travel there or investigate back then and decided to break it now which you haven't mentioned, then I see no reason why they didn't both have soldiers crawling over it since it was found and named?

Also this Dice girl why would she take over this kingdom, she found out that they screwed her life up and decides to kill the emperor and leave the guy who actually wanted to do it alive as her subject? Also if she has no emotion or anything why would she even care? Wouldn't she just kill the rest if she's a stone cold killer and took out the emp? You'll need to explain it more so it makes sense, if you only put up half the information you actually have then you're gonna have holes in your story, clearly.

They didn't have the technology. Plus they just started not to care about it.

The Capital was very powerless against the Sacred Lands Kingdom, since they are decendants of the ones who wanted this power. Qaros has grown stronger and is basicly the USA or China of the Essence world.

I didn't really understand this one... but I think I know. It's because they knew they couldn't just EAT the essence. Of course, these people centuries ago knew that they didn't have the technology to have the Essence within them, so they gave up.

Because she became interested in what the Essence could do. She found out that what the Ruler of The Capital wanted to do was make an army to make it the most powerful kingdom throughout the world. Dice knew that, so she continued and put further experiments, which is why Xyla is still a live... she is also working against her will, of course shes the evil bad guy blah blah blah the Hojo of Essence.

She isn't emotionless, nor a cold blooded killer. She originally wanted revenge, yet found herself dicovering more.

Battle themes, Victory theme, chocobo, some town themes, moogle theme... regular Final Fantasy themes really. My music composer doesn't like arranging music (he didn't want me to add any FF music lol.
