i don't like final fantasy and i don't like making topics about games but this is just way too cool to pass up:

basically this is FF7 on the NES, only not a ROM hack. it recycles graphics and music from FF2+FF3 but the script (though chinese) and events and stuff are all pretty much true to the game. it is also COOL AS HELL.

I've already told you on IRC that I thought this was the coolest thing ever.  Kind of inspiring to see just what you can do with an NES system still.

What I find funny though is the cart is labeled as "Advent Children", complete with the movie logo.  The title screen also has the same background image.  Pretty cool that this was that recent; probably would have looked a shitload better if it wasn't made by a knock-off company.
 
It seems interesting, but I would have liked to have seen more modern/sci-fi graphics (though its understandable if they were just using FF2/FF3 graphics).

Is this an RPG Maker game or is it being made on something else?

It's pretty neat, from a proof-of-concept point of view. As an actual game, it kinda sucks. Of course, I don't read Japanese, so that might have to do with it :tongue:

the dialogue is basically the same as the original translation, only in chinese, so if you've played the original there's not much difference i don't think. that doesn't make it BETTER of course (the original was horrible) but
 
I can tell the difference quite easily, seeing that I lived with chineese, korean and japanese people for 3 years.

This is bootleg right? So would it be safe to download a .nes rom of it?
 
Someone should totally take the rom, and hack in actual FFVII music and monsters.

And, you know, translate it.

And maybe make some custom tiles.

Then I'd totally play it.

If I had the table file, I MIGHT be able to put the text into English.  Music I'm not too sure about, and the rest is just editing in a tile editor program.

Though, tbh, it'd probably be easier just to do an entirely new game in a game maker.
 
I remember reading about this on Wikipedia or something awhile ago. If an english translation rom ever surfaces I would totally try it out. It actually looks pretty good, and I would be interested in seeing how faithful it is to the original game.
