Let's get a nice traditional TV show thread going on here, boys and girls.
6. Heroes
I originally had a top 5, but I like Heroes too much to not include it on the list at all, so I had to bump things up to 6. Pretty sure lots of other people are familiar with this show, and it's pretty damn popular, so I don't need to go into details. But it's superheroes, and you can never go wrong with superheroes.
5. The 4400
Great series, unfortunate that it got canceled recently. There won't be a fifth season, but the first four seasons are amazing to watch all together. The premise is simple: 4400 people who have disappeared throughout the past 60 or so years are all dropped off in Seattle. They haven't aged a day, and they have no recollection of the missing time. The series explores the answers to the obvious questions: who, how, why, etc. And of course there are superpowers involved. The reason I like this show so much is because it is really about characters and their reactions to the events going on around them, and less about the powers themselves.
4. Lost
I'm in the middle of the third season, and after this weekend I'll probably be caught up. another popular show like Heroes, there's not much really to say about it that isn't know. A bunch of people crash in a plane on a tropical island, but if I say any more I'll be spoiling it. There's pretty much mysteries everywhere. I like this one for the characters, too (other than Jack, of course). In fact, that's why I like all of the shows in this list- they really know how to put characters first.
3. Entourage
An HBO series about four dudes living the life in Hollywood. It sounds like it's about absolutely nothing, and for a lot of the time, that's exactly right, but fffffffff just WATCH IT. Give it three episodes, and you'll be hooked. It's definitely a "guy show", though.
2. Weeds
Showtime, baby! Weeds is about a mother who is coping with the recent death of her husband, and she is stuck with their two children. It's not easy to keep up their high-class suburban life, and she has to support her family by becoming the local pot dealer. I'm not a drug person myself but I can still really get into the show. Like I said about all of these others, it's about the characters, and thats what really drives it. This show, more than probably any other on the list, as serious ups and serious downs. You could be laughing your ass off and crying your eyes out in the same episode.
1. The L Word
Best show on television, and another one on Showtime (my top three are all on premium cable channels, hmm...). It's about a group of lesbians in Los Angeles and their lives and relationships. Entirely character-driven, again, and I absolutely love the characters in this show. I really can't get enough of The L Word. It's one of those shows where it has a certain reputation among some people (lots of people think the entire show is just lesbian porn), but really the writing and character interaction is so fantastic. I've watched the first three seasons three times each, the fourth season twice, and the fifth season is currently airing.
I'd recommend all of these shows, but let me tell you please to start from the beginning and don't miss an episode. If there's one thing I hate about shows, it's diving into a serial halfway through it.
