fancy gifs on the desktop

I tried putting some gif animations on my desktop, but I found no way to do it. I remember doing it about 1,5 years ago, and i think there was an option in the right-click menu where it said something like "set as desktop element" or something like that. I know it's not really a very necessary thing to do, but you know, Fancy things are fancy

Windows XP? I don't recall a default option- Perhaps using Active Desktop, with a HTML page as your wallpaper.

EDIT: It's questionable, since I don't have that on Mac. I think Ubuntu has it- Been a while since I used it.

Ew.  The better question is "why would you want to".  But yeah active desktop is the way to go, you can actually make your desktop do quite a lot of cool stuff.  Has anyone here tried to run a personal web server and do some complex server-side scripting via active desktop?

Thanks gratheo ^^

EDIT: Though what I actully meant was that I once had some fancy little sprite animations on my desktop and they where in .gif format. But thanks anyway.
