Faceset test

I've been meaning to try and do this for awhile, just to see if I could do it. So, out of sheer boredom and despite everything else I needed to do, I tried pixelating a faceset for practice, using a screenshot as a guide.

Please keep in mind that this was JUST practice, and I don't have any intention of messing around with it further. As you can tell I altered the outfit, because I have a weak point for the outfit I created for him in a fan fic of mine. >>;; I'm quite pleased with it, considering how freakin' dark the screenshot was, but any feedback is still welcome.

Awesome Bro

It's good like but I don't understand why you've done it?

Tracing an image isn't practise, It's just ... tracing an image :x

It's quite good, but the mouth could use some more work. One of the shades on his shirt looks off too, where his necklace/Millenium item was. It should be a bit more pointed. Overall pretty nice, but why would you want to remake something like that? If you can do this, you might aswell make them from scratch/draw faces on paper, then pixelate them on the computer.

Who cares what she did? If it's usable, leave her alone. :\

Also, the only thing that bothers me, Atemu, is the thickness of the eyelashes (and being so blocky because of the pixel) and the tiny odd mouth. xD

*pinches nose*

Guys, it was practice to see if I could do it. Naturally if I were to do something like this seriously, I'd use my own artwork, but this was just something to do because I had never done anything like this before. I'm not good at all at pixelating giant stuff, so it was a test to see if 1.) I could do it without going insane and 2.) I could do it fairly decently.

@Tassadar: Yeah, I guessed where the shading would go without the strap for the Ring. Obviously, I guessed wrong. :x

@Rye: Yeah, the eyelashes came out ugly; I should have used a better screenshot, and from before they switched artists for that matter. Mouth can be fixed with some shading... either that, or it's just his expression. I dunno. O.o;

@ Badmonur & $t3v0: Tracing doesn't stunt your abilities. I taught myself to draw by tracing things over and over. It's the best way to hone your strokes, your weights, and study proportions. In pixelling it offers you the ability to make an outline of something without having to think up the strokes you'll be using, which is annoying to finetune sometimes.

Certainly the next step would be to throw off the training wheels and go w/o tracing, but I even still have a use for it. Ever find a really good pic of a potted plant or something, shrink it down to 64x64 and then copy the basic outline and blocking? It's much quicker than figuring out your own shape, and being efficient isn't a bad thing :'>.

--Well, being efficient isn't necessarily making art, it's making a product. But if Atemu was going for art I doubt she'd be tracing something from YuGi-Oh! anyway :'D

Just my two cents ;')

True... but I would MUCH rather it be Yu-Gi-Oh than Pokemon any day.

The image and screenshot shows your attention to detail and attempt at recreating the original look. At the same time, you did improve on the fleshtone color as the original was rather dark and its color saturation seems reduced about 10%.

As you said, this was practice... but a good job nonetheless. Be it Yu-Gi-Oh or some book on manga art, this would be helpful in shading, proportions and facial features.

Scaling such an image down in size 'may' improve the image if the process softens the details making it less pixellated.
