Eureka Seven

I have been watching this Anime and reading the Manga ever since they 1st aired on Cartoon Network (ya people tell me the Dubs are better, but I realy dont care). Any way i thought it had a good plot and characterization. It is a Mech Anime/Manga if you don't know about it. It's not as big or well liked as Naruto or DBZ, but I watch anime for it's plot/story not how cool people cliam it is. Any way your thoughts on this Anime?

Ah, yes Eureka 7. I loved that show. In the beginning because of all the sick and demented things that happened, and the romance at the end of the anime truly was beautiful.

I'm indeed recommending you to watch some of the lesser known anime. That's where the real gems of anime are. The popular anime are just way too mainstream to really become amazing, in my opinion.

Loved this one. As psgels said, truely one of the better ones. I've been waiting to see if they'll release any of the games or figurines in the US.

Well they do have a Eureka 7 game out in the US, I asked people at Game Stop about it, but they did not have it. Niether did EB Games or Software Etc. But I keep calling them and asking them, so bug them long enough and they might order it. Though they said to try their website, but I have not yet.

Saw the first few episodes, but had to delete it(space concerns at the time). Shame, it looked to be quite good. The mechanical design was quite origional, and the action itself looked to be innovative(robots on surf boards!).
The characters seemed to be somewhat cliche, but they weren't bad. In fact, its a nice change from the brooding, emo prettyboys we get today*glares at Bandai and Sunrise*
And we actually have a girl piloting the title machine, instead of your standard anime hero!

Speaking of things that were unique to Eureka 7...

Eureka 7 has a lot of colorful people. I know it's Japan and-blah blah they don't have much diversity blah blah-but to me, a lot of anime is a bit whitewashed...(*coughcoughmiyazakicoughcough*). Either that or the few people of color are ridiculous caricatures (Dragonball). It doesn't bother me too much, but it's sometimes illicits a sigh.

However, Eureka 7 and a lot of newer anime, seem to be having more diverse characters (that actually have some sort of role in the series). And a yay from me, for interracial relationships (Moondoggy and Gidget). Heck, that's something you barely see on Western liveaction TV...

Eureka 7 got the often awkward 'nonewhite' look right without it looking none-anime so props to that(took long enough). The show itself is pretty bad, though. I hate the lead nearly as much as Shinji(who he's identical to) his only redeeming quality is he can airsurf, and that's kind of cool(on the people, makes the mechs look stupid). I mean after Evangelion, then RaXephon(which was basically Evangelion with a better budget) this doesnt really offer anything other than being twice as long as the shows it plagiurizes. And air surfing.

Shinji was a lot more whiny and emo, and frankly he's the most annoying hero I've seen ever. Then again a lot of characters on Evangelion were kind of f**ked up.

On the other hand, Renton is an awkward teen surrounded by a bunch of adults who seem to like picking on him. It's real funny, and the moment where they try to educate him about the world are sweet. It's the same for Eureka as well, and I think those kinds of moments are somewhat rare in these type of anime.

I just saw an episode where they brought him dirty magazines because they thought he wanted a child or to get laid......Thats what happens when people dont stop and listen i guess.

Yeah that seems to happen a lot in that series. There was another episode where Eureka wanted to be attractive to Renton, so Gidget hooks her up with a bunch of makeup...and she totally over did it. The look on Renton's face was hilarious, but you had to feel sort of bad for Eureka. She was trying! :D
