Environmental pixel art looking for C&C

So I'm having a hard time making some buildings in a 32x32 area... Made a few and I don't really like any of the... Any help on which parts are wrong? Colors, shapes, shading, outlines?

So the buildings are generally supposed to be futuristic... and metal...

Indoors


Outdoors


I really need help with this really badly, because I'm supposed to do this for the game development team I'm in and I'm having major difficulties. So thank you all who will write down thoughts to this!

More contrast? I've tried it and it does look sharper and better I think, I added a shadow to show the direction of light (if that's what you meant) because I couldn't find anything wrong with the shading...

Or is all that's wrong is contrast and lighting? Anyways can someone tell me how to match the ground tiles with the buildings? Would that have to be a color scheme between both?

Since I'm so bad about explaining things...I decided to made a small edit for you, maybe it will help you a little. :) and hope you didin't mind me doing it :P
I did not complete it however, I just edited the tower and the upper houses for you to grasp the idea.
To get the metal effect contrast is important, but you also need to know where it should be.
So first choose a proper light source, I used upper left.
when it comes to the shiny part put some dark couler on the opposite side of the light source, right beside it! this will make it pop out more.
Sorry I suck about explanation. But I hope you can get the idea from the edit.

Ahhh, I see, thanks a ton for the edit it really helps. The explanation part also was better than the edit so thanks again, now I know what was wrong with it in several ways.
