Endless Ocean Wii

What a game. I mean what a game.

I played it today at my local EB. First thing's first, if you consider yourself a hardcore gamer, stay RIGHT AWAY. I played for 35 minutes and didn't really get anywhere at all. I uncovered two new locations, befriended a penguin and chased a dolphin while searching for treasure on the ocean floor.

The game goes nowhere fast. It's a game where you need patience, want to relax and chill out to some easy gameplay. The graphics are great. I mean fantastic. Underneath the waves, you travel to stunningly designed locations where you catch the sun glimmering down from the surface and see wondrous landforms such as the coral forest and some hollow rock formation that's screaming Atlantis ruins. The fish are put together very nicely, and you do get a very nice looking marine life.

Above the ocean is a completely different story though. It seems like the creators put all their efforts into making under the waves delicious to the eyes, but when it came to doing the surface, blotched together a few animations in five minutes. Even worse is a chair on the deck of the hub/boat that lets you take in the scenery. What's there to take in seriously? Blotchy animations. Great. It's not spectacular by any means, but the game's purpose isn't to keep you above the waves for too long (though for the 35 minutes I played, I was probably above the surface for 15 minutes).

EB Games probably wasn't the right environment to be playing this game. It's best played with no one around you, lying down on your most comfortable couch in complete silence. First impressions of the music? It's very Enya. There's no fast-paced, action-packed guitar solos here... unless you import your own mp3's into the game yourself. A nice feature if Enya's not your thing.

Controls are simple. You don't use the nunchuk at all, just point and hold B. If holding B is too hard, you can even press the - (minus) button and your character swims for you. Almost effortless!

But seriously, rent it or try it first if you think you might like it. You could be dead wrong and have wasted however many American dollars it is for you guys, when it comes out on I think the 21st.

Don't go expecting any death-defying Shark attack battles, or pirate battles or anything like that. The most action you'll find in this game is patting all sorts of fish. You have to pat fish (or feed them) to get them to trust you. Only then do you find out information about it. Some fish take ages to gain their trust too, so having to befriend over 200 species of fish would, I imagine, become quite a chore. I collected information of about 15 species and found it borderline boring.

So yeah, just think before you buy.

I learnt that there are penguins from Africa. You could learn something crazy from this game like I did.

the only thing Endless Ocean and other video games share in common is that they are on video game platforms, if you read February's issue of EGM they do a story on it ,and admit that its not a true game, And if your saying that I listen to every thing EGM says, well your dead wrong, I dissagree with a lot of scores in this magazine and I hate the guts of the guy who wrote this article.

Crispen damn you for giving Assassin's Creed a 4.5/10, and how do you screw up so bad that you have to start the whole damn mission all over again?
