Element Efficiency?

So yeah i'm using RPGMXP right now and i was editing the classes. Now there is a box area for the elements in the game. what is the purpose of the Element Efficiency section? is it for damage reduction or powering up your own abilities?

Damage reduction. Although I think rmxp's letter scale should be reversed. You'd think having an A in fire would make you strong but you're actually weak. At least they color letters differently right red=bad

A:200%
B:150%
C:100%
D:50% (half damaged)
E:0% (immune)
F:-100% (absorbed)

press f1 if you ever forget.
