Edit: Added NEW Realistic Explosion Characterset Animation

EDIT:
I fixed the link to the second explosion - you can now download the BIG version of it by right clicking on the image.
END-EDIT

I'm going to deviate a bit from my traditional RTP-modification (can it be considered traditional after only two posts? :p) Below are links to some BIG explosion animations as charactersets.

I made the animated GIFs smaller for the forum's sake, but in-game, the explosions take up most of the screen. The color in the GIFs may also be a bit messed up do to the limited pallet - but, in game, the explosions look MUCH better. I recommend using them for cut-scenes, not that there is much else you could use them for. Also, be certain to the image mode to "Add" if you put them into your game, otherwise you end up with a big black box on the screen.

Because the explosions are so big, however, I imagine it would limit their use. So, I also have links to smaller versions which as half the size of the big ones.

At the bottom is a little extra - I don't know what you would use it for, but it might look nice place over one of the RTP-crystals or when someone casts magic out of battle in a cut-scene. For that one, you do not need to set the image mode to "Add".

To download the BIG versions, right-click on the animated GIFs and select "Save Target As". For the smaller ones, there is a link under each image.

That's all for now, but to see all the resources I've contributed go to my page HERE. That is a temporary site until I can design something more proper; once it is done, the link will redirect you to the new site.

EDIT
Here is a new explosion. This one has a touch of electricity - it might be good for a more modern-game where some kind of machine/factory blows up.

These are cool. I do animations too, what's your bit?

I'm more of a casual "animator", if you can call it that. I mainly work with PHP programming so my artistic side is a bit lacking.

I took a look at some of your work, and it is really good! Do you use Combustion? I recognize some of the particles from that - but they can be found in other programs, as I recall - like Particle Illusion. I haven't worked with particle systems very much (Combustion/PI a couple years ago), but these were produced with Trapcode Particular - heavily based off of their "Pyro Pack" - After Effects, and Photoshop.

I do all my animating in AE - it works out really well with resources for RMXP (and everything else :D); but, I have much more experience with AE than I do actually spiriting animations.

I don't usually make things entirely from scratch - preferring instead to modify and adapt; but that will change as I learn more and more.

I have Illusion, i need to get combustion so i can start working in 3D but alas, money. I may download a demo of it some time.

these are cool, they are every well done, but can i get permission to edit them so i can use them as attacks?

Absolutely! It would probably look pretty good as an attack - but don't take my word for it :).

I found Combustion to be a bit difficult, but I wasn't terribly driven to learn :D. Particular is a 3D particle system, so there is tremendous flexibility. Combined with the power of AE, the possibilities are endless. I didn't mean that to sound like an advertisement, though XD.

are these images transparent in games (meaning that you won't see the black when using them) or do we have to make them transparent ourselves?

Edit: Nvm. I just have to set it to positive blending.

But wow, these are really good. I will definitely give you credit!

those are awesome.I hope you continue to make more animations like these ^_^

I will of course credit you for these, as im planning on using these for my game :D

I have to admit, I'm not impressed with the lens flare. But other than that, these are very nicely done.

I thought it was a tad cheesy, but it brightened up the explosions quite a bit. I might make some without it.

Could you make some explosions with the fire not going from one side to another? I like those animations very much and would love to use some in my game :) Also the lens flares are nice, but watch out for them 'cause in the second animation they're going out of the frame.

Meticlan these are pretty incredible. I don't suppose you'd be interested in working with me to make a few more which would fit my project, considering that these don't really match with anything already out there?

Also there's no way these animations could work in RMXP since you didn't set any transparencies on the first two, just that black anti-aliasing. You need to render these with transparency.

These are not designed for transparency - when you put them into RMXP, set the transfer mode to "Add". The end result is quite nice. I am fairly committed to a few projects right now, so I probably won't be available to work with you, but thank you for the offer.

The animated GIFs are straight renders from the program I used to create the explosions in. In the PNG charactersets, the edges are feathered such that the lens flare does not get cut off.

I will see what I can do regarding the request.

I was just going to say about the additive mode :D
Here's a screenshot I made:

The animations look great, they're a bit too fast though.

I made them so that they would last exactly 16 frames - I can make longer ones, it's just that you would then have to use two or more character sets.
