Does anyone know any good spriting tutorials

So I made a basic tileset with grass, water and dirt ages ago that I believe I also posted here, but now I want to start spriting my own characters.

As a newbie pixel guy, I feel overwhelmed by the sheer amount of tutorials out there. I've requested tutorials before, and people would give me a website with titles like "Here's 80 pixel art tutorials for you." That's nice, but the majority of it doesn't help me at all. Either they use an unreadable font, or the explanations are vague, or it's not what I want to make.

I just want to make basic RPG sprites so I can make my own characters for my game. It seems everyone and their mom suggests the "So you wanna be a pixel artist" tutorial, and it's great, but I'm overwhelmed by the towers of text upon text, and the lack of visual aid.

I also tried this tutorial: http://finalbossblues.com/pixel-tutorials/

It's also great, and I read the whole thing, all of it makes sense. But when push comes to shove, I can't recreate it. I tried making a fancy "painter color palette" that looks messy, and it looked horrible and the colors didn't match up at all. I see the pictures, and it clicks in my head, but I still don't know how to pull it off.

Where do I begin? How do I choose colors? How do I know which shape is the right one? These are questions that are constantly going through my head when I read tutorials like this.

I want to get into this flow where I can create cool stuff, even if it's not that great. But I just don't know where to begin. It's maddening.

Yep, just do it over and over and you will improve (worked for me), for the most part you will figure it all out on your own, but the tutorials can speed things up too.

I say start small for characters and templates, take a look at others work if you can't wrap your head around something, but try to figure it out on your own first.
If you work with 2k3 sized graphics you can later zoom then in (200%) and use them in XP too, you get the old school look with some great mapping.
