Do you feel the need to help someone out?

Sorry if this's in the wrong forum/breaks the rules, but I couldn't think of anywhere else to put this.

I could swear to you, I think I increased my total post count today by 14 helping people. I don't understand why, I just felt the need.
So, the discussion is this: when you see somebody in need of help, do you help them best you can, or just move on to the next topic? Do you answer the prayers of poor, innocent newbs, or smack them in the face? I would like to know.

We will be back after these short messages.

On the internet: No
In real life: Yes.

I can't stand to see others suffering but newbs asking for cloud sprites so they can make "Teh Gr34test game evar!" just annoy me.

You make it sound as if a smack in the face can't be help.

I occasionally pop in advice threads or conversations my friends have when they're talking about problems, etc etc.
Sometimes you just wanna give a little advice, and other times that advice is delivered best by shooting down a hole in the argument, and totally berating that aspect.

Honestly call me a prick, but sometimes when you feel small or humiliated many seem to actually see a point better.  You remove a person's defense with a slap to the face, metaphorically if best, and you might get the advice thrown threw a lot easier.

I wonder if this topic wasn't spurred by "SGPR". If its any consolation I don't think he's serious about any question he asks or any answer he provides. Whether it be lost in translation or otherwise.

Anyway along with your topic. I do feel that need. Only when it comes to knowledge though. Monetarily not so much. If you have a question where I know the answer or can find out the answer within reason I have no problem helping you out. But if you're going to consistently break the Forum rules my reasons and will to help you, diminish drastically.

That's a good point, if I make something I always want it criticised (well, I mean concerning RPG Maker) because it makes me do something better, I wouldn't be as good at making games as I am now if people never criticised my work.

Yes.
Altruism is one of the functional needs of a productive member of society.
I was educated from a young age to believe that aiding those in need is a more just cause than aiding oneself.

But, as iceplosion pointed out, there's a difference between aiding people online and in real life.
In both cases, if I feel the cause is just, I will aid. Unfortunately, it's harder to find good causes and be convinced of their worth online.
I do try to help though - 125 posts in General Support can't be all wrong.

Yes they can.
Don't follow the thought that just because something is done over and over again leads to the fact it will eventually be done correctly.  I could try to throw a stone over a wall and land into a bucket on the other side that I can not see, and throw aimlessly.  I could do this ever day for a year.  365 throws in Staten Island can't all be misses.  Oh yes they can.

See that?  I helped... err... yeah let's just pretend that's what I did.

I know. I was trying to be sarcastic.
...I'm not very good at it, though.

The gist of that line was that it shows I at least try to aid those requiring help. My apologies if it wasn't read in the fashion I intended it to be.

Yeah, it kinda was. However much I just know he's going to be stupid, I know how to help him, so I do! I must have a disease or sommat...
I dunno. I always like to help people who ask for it in real life (and, of course, if they're dying on the road, when they don't ask for it) but I don't understand WHY.
But, a smack in the face does sometimes help (it worked for me at one point.)
Edit: Oh, and Sixty? I don't think you're a prick. :)

Yes, I do feel the need to help others I dunno why but, its me.

But I stop when I feel bum and quite tired and often annoyed if people keep asking.
